Hey guys,

Just wondering if there were some ways to get this damn flare up to go away without a visit to the good ole ER...

Any suggestions?

I've tried a liquid diet, and thus far i have little pain, but cannot stop the big D.

I welcome any and all advice :D

Have you tried a sitz bath? Sometimes that helps me. At least with the aches and pains of D.

I actually tried taking a bath with this methol/eucalyptus bath salt for aches and pains and it actually helps a bit. Now I'm just trying to get my bowels and my energy level back to normal. I'm also about finished with my GI doc because he told me if the methotrexate doesn't work, he's taking out my whole colon. I had a resection a year ago, and I'm only 21 and don't want to have to live the rest of my life with an ostomy if I can help it.

I give my Doctor writers cramp once a year

He writes a bunch of prescriptions and then as soon as I feel a flare coming - I treat it. The trick is working out which drug is the most effective - that I am still working on - sometimes it may be an infection not necessarily the crohns. I am learning and hopefully I do not see him so often

He gives me;
Rawasa
Lialda
Pamine Forte
Colestipol
Bactrin
Xifaxan

Good luck

yup, i'm flaring up too... started last night.

i'm so disappointed because i hadn't had a real flare up since late August and i thought that the Remicade was working (i had my third dose a couple weeks ago)...

but i think it's because i had stopped taking my imuran, so i've started taking it again.

talk about a reality check.

i'm just mostly laying around in the fetal postion with a heating pad on my stomach.. riding it out. hope it stops soon.

i haven't had one sip of water or anything to drink, because when i feel like this, it feels like i'm gonna vomit if anything goes down my throat.

good luck to you!

btw, i took a muscle relaxer last night with the imuran.. i think that muscle relaxer helped but the only problem is you're supposed to take it with food.. lol figures.

Back at home from the hospital!!

Thank you cheeky and Cog for the answers :D

Sorry to hear you are flaring cheeky, best wishes and I hope it passes soon for ya. I'm home from the hospital but I feel that "on the fence" feeling, like i could either get really good or bad from this point. Hang in there and if you need to vent, thats what we are here for!

Later,
Brandon

thanks TG2006... the muscle relaxers + heating pad + lots of sleep, calmed down the flare up and i was back to work yesterday. on average it's 2 -3 days when i get those kind of flare ups.

glad you're back from the hospital, that 's a good thing. so i hope that you end up on the good side of the fence soon!

take care
