Hello everyone...

Last night I made seafood linguine, which seemed like a perfectly acceptable dish for my tum-tum as it would all simmer for a while and be really well-cooked:

But I woke up this morning feeling AWFUL, as did my boyfriend. I've thrown up a few times and used the loo repeatedly. But since my BF has had diahrea this a.m as well, I hesitate to blame it all on Crohn's. Either way, I'm not going to my lectures today.

Can food poisoning aggravate Crohn's or bring on a flare-up?? I only just got over a flare! I'll be so mad at myself if I've just brought another one on... :ybatty:

I usually have regular food poisoning if I eat something not right. I didn't have this before Crohn's, so I guess Crohn's makes us more prone to this.

The symptoms should last a maximum of 3 days and then go away. To make sure it doesn't aggrevate to a flare you should drink lots of water, be careful what you eat (I only eat boiled potatoes, rice, toast, bananas, maybe a little chicken breast for protein) and try to rest. Hopefully it will go away soon. Good Luck

I too am prone to food poisoning and have had it a few times. I tend to be very choosy about where I eat nowadays though, so I haven't had it for a coupla years. Its funny how with crohns, you can just tell after only a couple of mouthfulls if something is going to disgree with you, or I can anyway. I usually don't bother to eat anymore when I get this and eat something else instead. This is probably why I haven't had food poisoning for a while. If I were you, I'd take it easy over the next couple of days, and make sure you stay hydrated.

Yeah, I think we are more prone to food poisoning than other folks because we already have a high concentration of bad bacteria in our gut already. Just that much more probably puts us over the top.

Yes, I too have noticed a sensitivity to those kinds of things. And this is weird, but I can't eat farm fresh eggs. My husband's grandparents have gave us eggs from their farm and every time I have had bad D from it while no one else gets sick. My husband says it is all in my head but I know it isn't. My stomach is just very sensitive.
I hope you feel better soon and that you don't have another flare!

Yeah Ruth. I just need to eat a few bites of something that doesn't agree with me, and I immediately know that this will be a tough night. I first start getting nauseated, then the cramps hit, and I spend all night awake with the pain, sometimes vomitting; I even sometimes cry from the pain..... I guess for me it's one of my Crohn's symptoms. Whenever I have this, I can never even think about the food that caused me this, without feeling sick and this is making my food choices smaller and smaller.... Sometimes i don't know if it's the food, the way it's cooked, it's source, if it's in my head :(

Yah me too
I have to be careful on what I eat.
I think that all people with CD have to be careful on what they eat.
Not to long ago I made the mistake at eating McDonalds I was puking for 2 days.so I havnt ate there since nor will I ever again.

I think that food poisoning can be a big contributing factor in why people have Crohn's problems in the first place. I honestly believe that people with Crohns in alot of cases have an imbalanced ratio of good to bad intestinal bacteria. getting food poisoning can contribute to why this ratio is messed up to begin with along with a diet very high in carbs which bad bacteria thrive on. if you really want a good book to read, I would highly suggest "Patient Heal Thyself" by Jordan Rubin. He explains alot about the relationship with Crohn's and bacterial floura in the intestinal tract and his personal Crohn's story is probably one of the most amazing I've read. I'm not trying to sell you anything but I'm telling you now, the things he says in this book and the changes he suggests have truely helped me more than any pharmaceutical drug I ever took for Crohns.

oh Tammy, M*******s yuk, what a load of rubbish. I am trying to convince my son its just crap but he likes it. I used to get relly bad cramps and constipation whenever I ate any of their food and its so unfilling too. Even healthy people say that 2 hours after eating it they are hungry again. You'd think with the amount of calories in their burgers, you would at least feel fuller for a little longer. Definately not value for money.

From what I've heard, 70 + % of a person's immune system is based in the good ole digestive system.. And since for us crohnies, our digestive system is pretty 'fouled' up, and our immuno system is in overdrive or repressed by immuno-suppressors, it just makes sense that we'd get hit by 'food poisoning' more frequently or easily than others. Factor in general poor health brought on by a chronic, lengthy illness, AND voila... it's the express lane to the vomit comet or the porcelain poo parlour. YUCK!!

Im serious Ruth
The last time I ate at the big M Iwas really sick.

On a very good day , I can tolerate McDonalds's. But even then after I eat it , I feel a bit queezy. I'm trying not to touch this stuff in my life. But sometimes I travel to very strange places, and the only thing you can recongnize or eat is McDonald's. Talk about the power of branding !!!!
