Foods we eat

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

I think the question is highly subjective and specifically relative to the segments of intestines known to have inflammation. Someone with severely strictured areas will have a much more limited range of "crohns pain free foods", for instance. The less sugar or hydrogenated oils or processed foods, the better. For those with very little inflammation/strictures, prebiotic fiber is a very good thing which wards off future problems by contributing to healthy probiotic populations and clearing out any stuck or putrifying fecal materials, in my opinion.

Generally, I think high protein foods (but not red meat) like baked/grilled chicken, eggs, and nut butters are tolerable from what I hear. I think 100% vege/fruit mixed juices are good, like carrot juice. For some people, milk and/or wheat gluten cause problems due to intolerances/malabsorption. From there, many people say bland things like rice or sweet potatoes or squash may be good. Others with similar known diseased segments of intestines are the ones to ask, perhaps?

It's very individual because what I may tolerate, you may find gives you gas, cramps, nausea or worse yet leads to an obstruction. Generally soft, bland and low fiber foods are considered safe but it's a trial and error kind of thing.

a lot of people say that spicy foods give them a lot of trouble but I have been reading into and trying foods that have anti inflammatory properties and hot peppers, ginger, turmeric, etc are all spicy and anti inflammatory and they haven't seemed to bother me too much. I can do nut butters but not whole nuts (ate some almonds the other day and I could literally feel them from esophagus to their eventual exit ab 36 hours later). Juicing has saved me from multiple vitamin deficiencies and eating a dark chocolate bar every evening and a tuna steak 1-2 times a week has helped my anemia (although dark chocolate is high in sat fat so u may not wanna over do it with dark chocolate, but I have been very excited to find a sweet desert type food that I enjoy that doesn't contain dairy)

what was the outcome of this... did you ever read the book and follow it? what are the "5 catalyst" foods?
