Hi, I've never done this before, but I've had Crohn's/ulcerative colits since 2000. I got allergies at the same time or the other way around. I used to have migraine headaches and I guess I traded up to the UC, but I don't get the migraines anymore. But, through a lot of trial and tribulation I have figured out that if I eat any wheat product, of which there are many, I get a "flare" about 12 hours later with bleeding, diarrhea and pain. All symptoms pass in about 12 hours except the bleeding takes a couple of weeks to go completely away. Recently I went off all medications ( for about 8 months and just didn't eat any wheat products) and had absolutely no flares, until Spring! At the very first bloom I was bleeding and nose running and diarrhea. By early June I was so sick my doctor couldn't even go halfway through with the colonoscopy because I was "as bad as or worse" than any inflammation he had ever seen. What to do?! I'm back on drugs, which I hate! I'm on Entocort EC3, 3 a day and started on Humira, which I don't think is doing anything. I'm at least not as bad as I was. It took about 3 weeks to see any results from the Entocort, but the allergies were better. I'm convinced that there's some kind of a relation.( Before I went off meds I was on Mercaptopurine, Remicade and every spring also added Prednisone.)

I went camping in higher elevation where the pollens were worse and I got worse. I came back home and I was better in about 24 hours. I did this two time in a row with the same result.

Has anyone out there had a similar experience? I go back to work in a few days, I drive a school bus, and I will be around a lot of kids with snotty noses, vomiting on my bus occasionally, etc.(Oh joy!!)

Would love to check this site and see what y'all say!

Thanks!

Welcome Margaret, I've been reading on here for a while but this is, I believe, the first time I've heard it suggested that allergies to pollen might cause flares. You had to add pred. in the spring because you would flare then I assume. It certainly seems plausible that pollen could be a culprit.

Have you been tested for celiac's disease?

Hi, Margaret, and welcome to the forum! What a unique (or maybe not so unique?) response to your allergies, having a flare. Huh. Will be very interested to hear if others have noticed this link. Out of curiousity, do you take year-round allergy meds? I wonder if that might help.
Glad to have you on the forum!

Hi Margaret and :welcome:

Good to see you hear. It's interesting the link you have between your flares and pollens. You'll find heaps of friendly and knowledgeable people here and I hope you stick around so we can get to know you better.

Welcome aboard!

Take care, :)
Dusty
