got my results

I had my colonoscopy on tues aug 31st and i just went today to get my results and my colonoscopy and the biopsies were normal. Idk why but i was kind of expecting that and i thought that was all i was going to hear and the appt was going to be over and that was that. Then she kept talking and said my second set of blood test came back the ones they sent out and they came back positive for crohn's and i was like what?? Really?? So now i have to do the small bowel series where i have to drink the barium stuff and do the x-rays so anyone that has done this please let me know how horrible it is and just talk to me cause i was not expecting this at all!!

What blood test? I'm just curious for my own un-diagnosed life lol

I'm sorry that it came back positive but so glad you are getting answers at the same time. Please keep us updated. The Barium stuff is not horrible at all to drink. Don't worry about that. I drank it for a swallow test once and it was completely fine. And they do an xray which doesn't hurt at all.

Hi. I had the small bowel meal thing a couple of weeks ago. I had to eat a low res diet the day before then take prep in the evening. It was only one sachet so not as much prep as for a colonoscopy. Mine didn't work for 6 hours! And I began to get worried it wouldn't work at all but when I asked about it at the hospital they said that was normal and they only need to make sure that the small bowel is clear not the whole system ;)
I found the barium surprisingly easy to drink. It wasn't any where near as bad as I thought it would be. It has a slight vanilla/fruit flavour added and is quite thick but I managed to drink the 2 1/2 glasses v quickly. I was v proud of myself :)
The actual xrays are nothing to worry about just lie there and they do a bit of proding around your small bowel to get the images they need.
Te radiologist told me mine was clear but as I am on pred he didn't expect to see anything as steroids get rid of the inflammation. As you can imagine I wasn't very happy!!
Am sure you'll be fine with it. If I can do it anyone can

Out of curiosity, did you have the Prometheus Serology blood test done? I had that done, among several other tests (upper endo, capsule endoscopy, and c-scope), and it was the only thing that came back positive. My GI will not dx on that alone, and I think most GIs are like that, from talking to other people on here who had similar results. It is the only reason he did anything more than a c-scope. Hopefully your subsequent tests will yield some answers.

I hope that you get more answers soon!

I have had Crohn's since I was 15 (all biopsies and everything always confirm) however, when they did that same blood test on me I was negative for Crohn's and UC!! Really weird. The GI just did it b/c he was curious, this was last year, so 11 years later! Anyway, he was saying that it isn't always accurate. I hope (well, i hope you just get some answers) but I hope they can at least find something to confirm it and you can get on the right path to feeling better!

Thanks all for the support and info i am not positive what blood test it was she told me it was a really long name i want to say its what you said mayflower but i am not sure, it was sent out and came back later then my first set of blood tests. She said the normal number is 20 and mine was 28 so thats all i remember from that point after she said that there was something abnormal i am so used to everything being normal lol. I am so used to everything being unanswered and being left in the air, which i still could be but i guess this is a start.

I don't know if that's the test or not then, based on your results. The Prometheus test is comprised of 7 different antibody assays which they run through some algorithm to see if your results match the pattern of confirmed IBDers. At least that's how I understand it. Whatever it was, hope it aids you in getting some answers soon.

I too have had the barium meal thru the small bowel jobby and I can honestly say in my opinion its not half as bad as a colonoscopy. Think they insist on feeding the barium through a tube through your nose though over here..........dont know why.........not sure how they do it over your way but all the best anyways.......you'll be fine.

when i inquireed about getting the small bowel test,my gastor said he didnt reccomend it(but would order it)...he said it would cause me to have leukemia when im 50 lol. idk what to do

if my colonoscopy(that reached terminal ileum) and upper gi were normal, what can it find!??

oh how long were ur scans? i heard some places only do it for 2 hours but u should request 4 hours.

can u find out the tests??? i would like to know!

i can call and see if they will tell me if not at my next drs appt which will be next week i will get a copy of my results!

Rc- the endoscopy reaches the first part of the small intestines, but there are many feet of small intestines that can't be scoped from either end! As for the follow through 'causing leukemia' yes there will be an increased risk but it doesn't mean you definately will get leukemia!

I never heard anything about the SBFT potentially causing the leukemia... but these days.. what doesn't cause cancer these days??

You mean you actually drink the barium? In Greece they put a tube through your nose, and insert it all the way to your bowel and then they send the barium all the way directly to your small bowel and then the pictures start.

It was one of the most uncomfortable procedures in my life INCLUDING the colonoscopy. This stupid tube hurt my throat all the time of the procedure and the Barium made me feel like I was burning inside.

Next week I am having a ct scan, I prefer it than that ****.

Oh and I forgot after the procedure I spend an hour in the bathroom dumping... chalk in the toilet. Its a little scary when you look in the toilet and you see white poop.

Scifimom

Blech

wow that must of been an experience i hope mine is not like that but i know we drink it so i imagine it won't be like that but i am sure i will have the white poo lol!
