Growling Stomach

My son had a resection last March because of a stricture that became totally blocked. The surgery went well and he was feeling very good. He had a colonoscopy done in August and we found out (on his 20th birthday) that there was microscopic evidence that the Crohn's was returning. So, his doctor started him on Humira (after a month of fighting with our insurance company). Anyway, everything was going fairly good (he has had a few bouts of diarrhea) until last Friday. He woke up early sick at his stomach and had a very bad case of diarrhea. Ever since then his stomach has been growling again and he says it just feels funny in the same spot as the resection. I called the doctor and he had a Cat scan done Friday, but we haven't heard anything back from it yet. Has anyone else had anything like this or any ideas of what might be going on? Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't worry too much about the growling - anything that upsets digestion can cause a lot of trapped wind which can cause the noise. Does he feel bubbly sensations along with the noise? I used to find that when I had diarrhoea my intestines made more noise, I assumed because of all the liquid sloshing around and my stomach churning. I don't get this anymore since having ileostomy surgery - now with my stoma the bowel contents seems to flow out easier rather than churning around in my intestines for a while like it did before my surgery. So the noise itself doesn't necessarily indicate anything serious.

Last March is quite a long time ago, so it seems unlikely to be a surgery complication, and bear in mind that the location in which he feels the pain (is it a pain sensation or something else he feels?) does not mean the issue is for definite related to the earlier stricture - though it's certainly possible.

The symptoms he's reported sound quite vague, so I think it's unlikely any of us here can give you specific ideas - sorry!

Have the scan results come back yet? Make sure you contact the doctor again should his symptoms worsen or should he develop new ones. I hope he's soon feeling better, and I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful!

Thanks for the reply. He doesn't say it's a bubbling sensation, he just says he "feels something" in the same spot of the stricture. He's still having the growling, which is so hard for him because he's in college and it disrupts class. We still haven't heard from the scan. They were supposed to have the results back to the doctor's office on Friday afternoon, but they haven't called yet. I know I need to call them, but apparently I am thinking that no news is good news. We will definitely call if he starts hurting. Thanks again - you have made me feel better.
