Was referred to a GI as I had been having diarrheah and ache in stomach. Cal protection test showed 151.

Saw GI yesterday who said that level of calprotection is 'only slightly raised and he looks at that level and thinks it's nothing'. He said he does not think I have crohns because I sometime feel constipated and because there is no blood. He also said he thinks it's ibs and does not want to do any tests to investigate as he does not think it's necessary!

So what a disaster. I came out in floods of tears because I don't feel he listened to me. I told him all my symptoms including the mucus stools, cannot eat fruit or veg without stomach pains and loose stools. Joint pains, mouth ulcers galore and fatigue.

I don't know what to do from here?

Sounds quite disappointing.

Did you ever have blood tests (CRP, ESR, cbc) and if so,were they normal? if not, could you arrange for your gp to do them?

I've never had 'normal' ESR or CRP always slightly raised but then I've always been told they are fine and normal for me?!

I'm seeing my gp tomorrow to discuss it but there's not point in me getting the bloods done just now as I have a cold and sinus infection so it's going to raise the ESR and CRP. I'm going to ask her to do the calprotectin test again to see what it's at. Once I've got over the cold will get my bloods done. I also asked why my folate levels and b12 keep dropping when I don't take supplements and all he said was they were within normal limits. My b12 in 2 points into the normal category. Folate is the same like 1 point in the normal. I was deficient in folate. Took supplement and it took it up to 16. Stopped supplement and it's back at 3. The lab range I think started at 2 up to 20.

I keep getting mouth ulcers and cold sores too. I just got rid of a cold sore and two mouth ulcers last week and yesterday I woke up with another cold sore and a different mouth ulcer.

Are you sure they're cold sores LE30? My son had persistent mouth ulcers and sores in the corners of his mouth prior to diagnosis. The GP kept telling us that they were cold sores and that he should eat more fruit and veg!! Turns out the sores were angular cheilitis - an oral manifestation of Crohn's.

Hi Chester

Thanks yes defo cold sores. I get them when I'm run down but normally one a year not two in two weeks.:(

That's really disappointing for u. See what your gp says then take it from there, hopefully there will b other options and tests for u. I've always been with the RAH in paisley but now being sent to Greenock for colonoscopy so hopefully they read my entire record as the hospital know all about me!

Do you think there's any possibility it could be ibs? What's your next steps?

Suzi I meant to say as far as I'm aware it's the same consultants that cover both inverclyde and paisley. When is your colonoscopy again?x

Yeah I saw that online but it's a new consultant I have but I'm fine with that. Well I got my prep pack through today and the date I've been given is Saturday 5th july. We were meant to be going away that weekend for my birthday but not anymore! Lovely way to spend my 28th bday lol. I'll need to take the Friday off work and stay near the loo! All seems so real now x
