Hello! I'm 19 years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's in June 2011. I'm currently on Remicade, and have recently been noticing hair loss. I'm loosing fistfuls of hair when I take a shower/comb my hair. Also, I've always had a little dandruff, but it has become even more noticeable recently. My doctor put me on some vitamins about 3 weeks ago to help strengthen my hair, etc, but I haven't really noticed a difference, which is kind of depressing? Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, has it gotten any better?

Unfortunately, you will find this is a very common thing with us! It sucks to lose hair like that. Did your dr suggest you take just extra vitamins or biotin? I have been taking biotin, it's a B-vitamin that is good for hair loss. I still lose hair, but much less than I used to. I tend to lose more hair when I am feeling crummy too, so that's always an indicator for me that a flareup is on its way.
Lots of people on here have this same problem, you are not alone!

I had quite a lot of hair loss when I was on Aza and I tend to get a bit when I come off high dose steroids as well.
Like Heather said, Biotin is pretty good stuff to take - I noticed a difference suprisingly quickly when I started taking it. Give it a go if you haven't already :)

Hey there! )))hugs!(((( so sorry about your hair! I always get some hair loss after being on prednisone (I've never been on remi), and it really stinks. It's funny - bleeding out my gut doesn't worry me half so much as my hair thinning!!! I take b-vits/biotin all the time - they don't stop my hair loss but maybe it would be worse if I wasn't taking them?

My hairdresser suggested I try Nioxin's cleanser/conditioner/scalp treatment, so I started that a couple weeks ago. I don't know if it will help but I'm hoping it will - it makes my hair feel nice, anyway (the pred makes my hair limp/dull). The nioxin products are pretty expensive at salons, but I got mine at a beauty warehouse at a big discount, and I noticed they sell them at a pretty reasonable price through amazon.

Ok, end of the nioxin advertisement!!! I guess it just helps knowing that at least I'm trying something --- has anyone else used this stuff?

Try Doo Gro. A stimulating growth oil. Promotes strong, healthy, growing hair. Botanical oil, vitamin & pure herb formula. Helps eliminate flaking dandruff & itching. Tames frizzes. Adds shine. You can find it at Walmart. By the African American Shampoos and hair dressings.

I too am using Nioxin (4) and to be honest, even using their leave-in intensive scalp treatment that comes in their 3 step kits, the syrum is by far THE best. using that twice a day has significantly improved my hair growth in only a little over a week. It filled in EMPTY patches i had. I believe its called Hair Booster. The woman in the salon who suggested it had to use it herself. now her hair is GORGEOUS and, well, huge :) I hope it works for you too.

Thank you, I'll give it a try. I have long hair, I guess it's my vanity. Ha Ha. Never was into short hair or no hair.Silvermist.
