A Short Poem about the 4th of July

227 years ago…on July 4th, 1776
This great nation, the United States of America,
In a struggle for what was right and free,
Was proudly born…
May we celebrate that precious freedom
For which our forbears fought so bravely…
The freedom that is inherent
In the Stars and Stripes, our revered flag…
Celebrate Freedom
This 4th of July!

:dance:Celebrate, have fun and be safe.

Love Farmwife and family

We're off to a parade this afternoon, then back to the sister's house for a camp fire, then off to the fireworks. Wow, I'm tired just typing that. lol

Yeah o.k. all that BUT the Declaration was really signed on July 2nd (ahem my birthday). It just took two days for them to ride by horse and file it so technically two great events in history happened on the 2nd! Just sayin'

Happy 4th of July!! The Lone Ranger movie, then swimming and fireworks at my sisters and of course lots of food. Making lemon bars this morning before it gets too hot.

Long Ranger...ya can't get more American than that.

YUMMY, lemon bars, also very American.

We're doing s'mores.
I did find special marshmallows for Grace. I might let her roast ONE or two.

Have fun.

Our family is scattered this year. Daughter in Texas, Son in Dubai, husband out of town on biz, 19 year old daughter off with friends and here we are alone, with plans to drink SCD friendly smoothies all day long...both already missing my tweaked to perfection, potato salad, marinated veggie kabobs, vegan bbq chicken and strawberry shortcake with coconut cream on top - also vegan.

We'll see a movie, pick up a few fireworks and take our precious pups on a walk to the lake, which will be nice. Happy 4th everyone. :)

Just added new item, taking Jack to urgent care has a bug bite or something from camp that is so swollen, hot, red and causing his whole leg to hurt. Well at least we will get there before it is filled with firework accidents :(

Cellulitis - They put him on 2 different antibiotics and if it is not better by Saturday, bring him back in case it is MRSA. Also watch for fever! Of course he is supposed to have labs next week. Wondering if I should hold off since I would imagine this would throw everything off.

Only on THIS forum can you start out the day making lemon bars and end with Cellulitis.

I hope it heals quick. Will you still be able to celebrate the 4 th??

Fwiw DS had cellulitis - but it didn't affect his lab numbers at all.
Hope the abx work quickly - it was painful for DS.

Make sure you ask your ped about keeping a tube of bactroban on hand at the first sign of a cut.
We were told any cuts dings etc from now on need bactroban

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY YANKEES!!!

Vegan BBQ Chicken????!!! I would love the vegan strawberry shortcake recipe. We cheated here and used angel food cake today.

Oh man JM! That totally stinks. Sounds like he is being a trooper about it. Hope it heals quickly!

Have to admit if I were your sister I would be asking, "you still making the lemon bars?"

Lemon bars already made before trip to urgent care. He is doing okay says it hurts and he is limping cause it all swollen by his knee and he really wants to go swimming

Poor guy, I hope it's not too painful and that the antibiotics don't cause him much trouble! :(

:dance:Well we all had a great night.

Went to the parade a bit late, had to sit at the end of the parade where apparently
the people IN the parade have given up hope of ever reaching the end and stop smiling and waving to the crowds.
I never realized how sweaty a marching band can truly get.
It's also at this point where you hear the parents walking/holding/draging their kids
and saying, WE"RE NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!:rof::rof:

We had a blast at the fireworks.
By the time the fireworks happened little farm girl and boy were asking if it was time to leave.:ybatty:

AWWWW, the great American way!

Still it was lots of fun for us and pain free for them.
