A little update...
DS continues to be doing well on Remicade. Today is week six in the eight week schedule. As with last time at six weeks, he seems to be entering what I call the yellow zone. Just a tad tired, but really, it could be attributed to so many other things besides IBD, so I'm cautiously watching from the sideline. I haven't said anything to him yet. Sometimes it seems like when I do, it opens a can of worms, so I want to wait for him to come to me. Even though I was a little worried last round, he did make it to eight weeks just fine.
Next week tennis practice starts (well, after they shovel the snow off the courts!) and he'll be playing on the JV team again. He's pretty excited and I'm excited that he's excited. He's still the littlest guy on the team by far, but he's been nicknamed "The Intimidator" and says he's planning to live up to his nickname. Last year he flared mid-season, so keep your fingers crossed!
We did a weigh in last night and he's up to 95 pounds. I love pounds! One year ago he was at 77 pounds. Almost 20 pounds in one year, not bad! I'm convinced had we not done the resection surgery a year ago January, he wouldn't be in this place that he's in now - that and Remicade. If I only knew then what I know now...
I'm finding that I'm really enjoying this reprieve of good health (knock on wood). Dare I say I'm a bit... bored? Crohn's has been front and center for so many years, it's kind of weird to not have it consuming our daily lives. Next week, DS turns 14 and we're actually planning a birthday party. In the past he's always either been too sick, on his way to being sick, or simply didn't have the energy to keep up with his friends, so his birthday has been very low key the last several years. He's really looking forward to the party.
For those of you experiencing rough times right now, please keep pushing, keep questioning, and keep your hopes up. Good health, and boredom, are on their way!
Cheers!
