My current meds are:

-pentasa granules
-esomeprazole
-codeine

any help appreciated.;o)

Hi,

Don't know any reason why it shouldn't be ok, but I don't know how effective it will be? You probably need the consult to find out? From what I remember they they need to stimulate an immune response starting with very low doses of the antigen. I also seem to recall that the number of Consultants that are truely expert in this area is pretty small i the UK.

I have to say that my Hayfeaver and Cat allergy have been nowhere near as bad as they were before I started immune suppressant drugs. But, it allway varied form year to year and cat to cat anyway!

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Mark

Hi there! I'm not at all familiar with the whole British process with allergy shots, but I have been getting shots for my allergies for almost 4 years now. I was only diagnosed with Crohn's last year. I haven't had any problems while getting my shots and taking my medications. I am taking Imuran and Humira.

Mark is right....they start you out on very low doses of the allergen and increase over time. Your body will naturally build up a tolerance for the allergen, which lessens the allergic response over time. I highly recommend allergy shots if you are able and can find a doctor who knows how to do this for you.

I am treated for cats, mosquitoes, dust, mold, and pollen.

I don't necessarily think it causes it, but it makes sense to me that if Crohn's disease is due to an overactive immune system, that we would also be sensitive to allergens--which has to do with the immune system as well.

O ic, how are the allergy shots? My mom gets them and she said her allergies are better but she still gets pretty bad hay fever, I take the regular drug store reactince, claritin etc. and they don't seem to work for me.

My allergies are definitely better, but I wasn't as sensitive to outdoor allergens as I was to mosquitoes (which has improved immensely as well). I find a get less allergy-related colds. In fact, they are gone completely. My husband has really bad outdoor allergies and it's like night and day with him now getting allergy shots. He used to go outside and sneeze so much. Now, he has no problems. Neither of us have to take a daily allergy tablet. We just use nasal spray at night.

I don't know how it is in Canada right now, but I know the pollen count in Florida (where I am originally from) was incredibly high already. The oak trees were blooming like crazy down there. My mom works at an allergy clinic and she said so many regular patients came in asking for stronger doses of shots because it's just been a terrible allergy season already.
