My name is Galen West and I have Crohn's. (is that too AA-ish?) I am 45 yrs. old and have my first surgery when I was 27 (they took out about 1 feet (foot?) of both my large and small intestine; at the juncture where they meet). Well, it has come back in a bad way. I am in horrible pain, but it is not due to blockage. I have had both an upper GI test and lower GI test (colonoscopy), but I am in horrible pain so my doc. is putting me on 40mg prednisone. i am using vicodin like it is candy until the pred. kicks in in a few days. I am also on Humira but don't know if that is working at all.

Good luck to you. You might want to ask your doctor about hyosciamine (I'm not sure of the spelling) maybe instead of the vicodin. I use the sublingual version that you put under your tongue. It's an anti-spasm medication and if your pain is a result of a spastic bowel, it will help a great deal. It works miracles for me with far fewer side effects than Vicodin. I wish I had found out about it sooner.

Hmm some people just feel the pain more strongly than others. It's very very subjective and personal. I've just gotten used to gritting my teeth and baring it but I would never suggest that anybody else should do that. Vicodin and Demerol have been my friends in the past but I just don't like the peripheral effects.

Hi Galen. You sound like you are suffering horribly at the moment and I'm sorry to hear that. Loads of people on hear are great and will help as much as they can. Me too although I am still learning the jargon but will try to give as much encouragement and support when needed. Nice to have you along for the ride. :welcome: Hope things improve for you soon.

Hi and welcome! I am sorry your Crohn's is acting up once again. How long have you been on Humira now? Sometimes it can work right away, but for others, it can take a few doses. You might want to check out the Humira Club; I am sure you'll find it helpful.

I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there!
