Hi,

Just been diaganosed with IBD. Not felt well since having a kidney infection at christmas. Had tummy upset, loose stools and chills. The chills were like i still had the kidney problem but that had cleared up. Then in March I got a nasty lung virus which has left me with post viral fatigue. Haven' t been to work for 4 months because of all the horrible symptoms. Anyway in June I then started with a watery diaherra bug which went on for 3 weeks, then came the blood and lots of it. I thought it was piles but there were darker red clots in it and mucus. Well this all settled down but it felt inflamed alot of the time, i was still waiting for my sigmoidoscopy. I had it done and it showed I have Colitis just in the lower rectal area. Used Predfoam which helped then they said I need to take Asacol. Seems to help but still feels a little sore. No more blood or mucus. But I cant make out whether a virus caused it or this started it and weakened my immune so I picked up the virus and ended up with post viral. The doctor said it can run in families, but I dont know anyone who had it?. Confused, but slowly getting better i hope!

Hi Lara, yes I have had your problem and I have had crohns along time but when you get a bug, it certainly can cause your problems to erupt. Yes it can run in famlies, all 4 of us out of 5 (one wont get tested...dumb) have a form of IBD. I dont bleed, I guess I should be thankful for that. My sister has crohns colitis and bleeds, the Asacol did help. Hope you join our community and there is always help 24-7. `:welcome:

Hi lara :) Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you've had a grand 'ole time with infections and viruses. Just wondering: did your IBD diagnosis come around while you were on antibiotics?

Nice having you here.

Hi Lara and welcome!

Goodness, you've certainly had a bad year, you poor thing :( I'm sorry you've had to go through so much.

I was a little unsure from your post, do they feel what you have is an infective colitis or Ulcerative Proctitis?

All my best to you and I hope to see you around the forum :)
