I've been sitting on this site for some time now. Think I'm in denial.

Have had diarrhea for about a year now. Got worse about 6 months ago when I became really stressed at work. Feel pretty lucky, as I was immediately sent to GI doc. Scheduled a colonoscopy, and results came back as colitis. Am on my second month of entocort(sp?), and still no relief. GI doc did blood test that came back Crohns. Have an appointment for end of the month to see where we go from here.

I'm so tired of running to the toilet, feeling sick afterwards, having a bloated upper belly, sick to my stomach, butt and back pain.....well, guess you already know. I can't imagine having a normal day with no D! Will it ever happen?

I suggest buying one of the books listed in the book section. The best oeI have read is "Listen to your Gut".

Welcome! Sorry you have to be here tho....
Has your doc recommended Imodium to stop the D? My doc did, said it is safe, maybe check, it worked for me. Now I'm on Remicade IV and it's been wonderful. 2 years so far - knock on wood. I'm 40, have been dealing with this since age 15, diagnosis 10 years ago. Drop me an IM if you'd like.

HI Homew3
Welcome to this forum.
Sorry to hear that your having a flare-up
And yes in time the "D" will stop as soon as it doe's then
the pain will also.
You could try CHOLESTYRAMINE it is an orange powder that
you dilute with water then drink it. Tastes not bad,but it works.
Also try taking sitz bath with Epsom salt that will help ease the bum
burn and the aching back
You'll come around with time. Just as soon as your GI knows what
meds (to give you mat take some trial and error)will get along with
your body. Everybody reacts different to meds. Be patient it will
get better with time.
Any more questions feel free to ask. Some one here will have an answer.
GOODLUCK

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! It is really nice to see there are others that understand, and that I am not alone.

Tried the immodium, and pepto. Absolutely no response. Nothing with the entocort also. I understand it may be a trail and error in regard to meds, but how long does this usually continue? I'm just so shocked it has been every day for the last 6 months. Or is that how long a "flare up" lasts? And I have heard about remission. Can't believe it at this point, but how long can that last?

I'm not sure if I just haven't "got" it or what, but seems no matter what I eat...here it comes!! Am I supposed to stop eating, or do broth or something at this time, and that's why it's not getting better?

Thanks so much for all your help! I am a mother of 6, work, and get so upset as I am not usually sick. I don't think I've really accepted either.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Sorry you have been so miserable. My mom's dr. told her to take the liquid immodium because you could adjust the dose better. Just a hint. But I have had D for so long, I almost feel bad if I have a "slow" day. I used to blame my D on the fact that my ileocecal valve in my bowel was removed. A GI dr. told me after my last surgery that with proper meds and diet, I wouldn't have to suffer with D. I stopped taking lomotil years ago because it made me gassy, and is also a narcotic, but it did slow me down. I also have been on entecort 3 capsules for 2 months recently and then down to 2. It didn't stop my D either.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

Sorry you have had a rough go of it...
hopefully now you are feeling somewhat better
and more in control of the situation.

You will find a ton of information here...
and also meet a lot of friends who are in the same boat.

Once again....welcome!

Hugs~Nancy

Hi and welcome to the forum Homew3... Hey, if I could predict the future, I'd be on an online gambling site, earning the bucks to pay for my meds.. OK, bad puns aside for the moment... Are there better days ahead? You bet.. Don't lose site of that, OK
You may not believe it, but you've already had some incredibly good luck. Getting it diagnosed so quickly is really a blessing.. Don't believe me, ask some of the folks on this site who struggled for years to get their 'unknown' ailment finally diagnosed rite

Anyway, welcome again...

Kev,

I do feel lucky! Alhough I have had symptoms for over a year now, I only went to my doc last October. Sent to GI, and just diagnosed this February. It did go pretty quickly! Maybe that's why I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this!

I had my first Remi treatment today, and there was another guy in there who seemed to be surprised I was already having Remi treatment? He has had this for 10 years. I have read that it has taken WAY to long for others to get their answer. I hope this means I have found a great doc!!

Thanks for the welcome!
