Hi,
My name is Rafaela and I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis in 1999. I have moderate to severe CD and UC, although I would consider it severe.
I've been on a lot of medications over the years, but none seemed to put me on remission. Once I started on biologics in 2004 (Remicade), my life changed for the better. I no longer felt pain, but still had to deal with diarrhea. My quality of life improved tremendously.
I opted to have a colon resection in 2007; I had developed two fistulae. My GI doctor was against it but I weighed the pros and cons and decided to go through with it anyways. I had three wonderful years, of being healthy, in remission and virtually medication free.
But my disease came back with a vengeance mid 2010. Nothing was working and I started losing weight, developed a severe flare, along with rectal fistulae that would not heal. I was hospitalized for almost 8 weeks and had a colostomy 06/2011.
My health improved again, the fistulae healed and I had my takedown surgery in 02/2012. Despite all this I flared again in 7/2012. I am currently on remission (yay! :applause: ), on maximum therapy.
Cimzia 200mg Q2 weeks, 6MP 50 mg BID
I am well and healthy.
Life is short, gotta enjoy every moment.
I just need to improve my diet. I have gained a lot of weight in the past few months... Prednisone was the culprit... I'm finding it hard to lose the extra pounds....
