Hi Everyone, I have finally plucked up the courage to join. I was diagnosed with UC on the 26th September 2006 after my first colonoscopy and put onto entocort enema's for a while. Things got worse and I went to see a different GI in April 2008 where I had a second colonoscopy. This time I was diagnosed with crohns disease, apparently it was in the large as well as small intestine. I was put onto oral entocort 9mg a day and Azapress, to which I had the worst reaction. Within 2 weeks I could hardly function anymore and after trying unsuccessfully to get hold of the GI( he always seemed to be overseas) to discuss changing meds finally just stopped taking the Azapress and carried on with the entocort. I stopped the entocort in March last year, as I had to reapply for chronic medication from the medical aid and was too busy to bother! Yes I know that was stupid, but I sometimes like to pretend that I don't have a problem. Things obviously got much worse again and I saw a specialist surgeon, recommended by my GP on the 2nd of December last year and landed up having surgery on the 3rd December. Double haemorrhoidectomy and anal fissure repair and 3 biopsies. I was off work for 2 weeks afterwards to recover. I was back on entocort enemas for 3 weeks and 10 gays of antibiotics, but saw the surgeon again on 6th January and he has put me onto steroids 30mg lenisolone a day, another 10 days of antibiotics, multivitamins and probiotics. I see him again on the 2nd February to reasses. I think this years "new years resolution" is going to be to look after the crohn's and I finally seem to have found a doctor who is interested and prepared to walk the road with me.

Hello Samantha.

Sorry you have Crohn's. Glad you found us.

Having the doctor in your corner is a big help. Hope you start feeling better soon.

That's one resolution to keep. You can't ignore this disease. Glad you have found a doctor that is going to be helpful now.
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome Samantha!
You'll be glad you joined - as I recently did too. Great folks here! It helps a lot discussing similar stories with others in the same boat (but no two are the same).

Sounds like you are past-due for some quality comfort control. Best of luck to you!

Welcome, Glad you desided to join. Hope this Doctor gets you the help you need. Just not sure why the antibiotics I have had nothing but trouble with them. Good Luck keep us posted.

Welcome Samantha, you may very well be our only South African! :)

Yup, this place has been a life saver for me. The people are great and there is loads of helpful information in the threads. Most of all, we all understand, so come on in and make yourself at home :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I think the antibiotics are mainly because of the open wounds from the recent surgery!

Welcome Samantha! I think you will find a lot of supportive people on this forum. It's important to keep that New Year's resolution of yours, so it is great that you have a good doctor and you are paying attention to your health.

Welcome Samantha!
I'm glad you decided to join, you will find a ton of information and support here. :)

:welcome: Samantha!! Glad you are here. Yep - no ignoring this disease - it will make its presence known :O) Hope you get it quiet - welcome!!!

Thats a good resolution to make every year!

I think many of us can function just as well as everyone else so long as we make that extra bit of effort to take care of ourselves :)

Welcome to the Crohnies, Samantha. I agree with Shaz, you maybe our only member that is from S. Africa.

Sorry to hear you had it so rough.
