Hi Everyone,
New to the forum and posted this in "IBD tests" but then realized the general discussion thread might be better! No diagnosis yet but in the process, having completed numerous blood and stool tests. I have elevated inflammatory markers that include crp, esr and positive for stool lactoferrin which i understand represents active inflammation, additionally pancreatic elestase (enzymes) is abnormally low. I have had a CT enterography which revealed thickening in the sigmoid/Rectal area and also the terminal ileum. I am now awaiting biopsy results from a colonoscopy but my doctor told me just as i awoke that she did not see to much inflammation, can anyone give me any insight on what that may indicate? I have been dealing with abdominal pain and persistent diarrhea along with urgency for awhile. My brother and nephew both have CD and UC. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Hi and welcome. she did not see ''too much'' inflammation... imo, either there is inflammation or not... Hopefully the biopsy will help this GI. The results should come pretty soon. If you are unsatisfied with this GI response, you should look for a second opinion. Short colonoscopy for only rectum and sigmoid is much easier and easily done. Any possibility you can meet with the GI of any of your siblings in case she doesnt come to a conclusion? Wishing you well.

Thanks for the welcome Lady Organic! I thought it was just kind of odd that the inflammation markers are so elevated and the radiologist saw a good bit of thickening and inflammation but after i had a colonoscopy this week including the terminal ileum of the small intestine, she did not see as much inflammation by eyesight, possibly microscopic. I will hear from her on Monday or Tuesday in regards to the results and then have an office appt with her on 1/23. My brothers GI is in the same office and my nephew lives elsewhere. Something that has been hard to deal with throughout, is the length of time to diagnosis, i had my first appt in the beginning of October and still in the diagnostic process but i do realize that gastroenterology is a very busy specialty!
