So when are hemorroids a need to be concerned?
DS probably ( need Gi to confirm) has a ring of hemmies around his entire bottom.
I have heard of one or two but not sure on the entire area.
Could call on call but not sure that they would "do" anything since current Gi is having us watchful wait but that was before the entire area was involved.
I hate long weekends

I have no advice just wanted to send you :ghug:.

For us everything always happens on a long weekend or the day after an appointment where we have told the docs that everything was going GREAT. :voodoo:

I've had hemorrhoids since I was about 14 or 15, then had surgery on them when I was 20. The surgery went horribly! It was an excruciating recovery, and I don't recommend it at all! They did not know that I had Crohn's when they did the surgery. Because I healed so poorly from the surgery they investigated further and (after a colonoscopy, bloods and more tests) found that I have Crohn's and that was why the hemorrhoids were there and why they were not healing properly after the surgery. Once I started to get the Crohn's more under control the hemorrhoids got smaller and stopped bothering me. I still have them, but they are smaller (size of a pea/small lima bean, to give some perspective- when they were really bad they were the size of a quarter or more ) and they don't really cause any pain or discomfort.

They are definitely part of the Crohn's, which can cause inflammation on any part of the digestive tract. And Crohn's can cause circulation issues like varicose veins and hemorrhoids.

I wouldn't worry about them too much unless they are very painful or start to bleed a lot. Definitely tell the doctor, because you never know. It looks like your son hasn't been on Humira for very long, so maybe as that starts to work it will take care of them? Also I saw that he had been on Pentasa, but that it failed. I started on Pentasa, and it was I think the main thing that helped clear up the hemorrhoid problem, but it did not solve the other inflammation and symptoms. When I have gone off of Pentasa, even for a few days, I can feel the hemorrhoids get worse. So I think that the Pentasa really helps with the inflammation in that area..at least that's been my experience with it.

Sorry to be so wordy! Hope it was helpful :)

Eat soft foods for a while and avoid caffeine until they go away. I would also talk to your doctor about it as there may be something he/she could give you to make it go away faster.

I had a similar issue while on remicade and mine went away after another remicade treatment.

THANKS!!
no caffeine- he is only 9 :lol2:
He is on asacol so similar to pentasa plus canasa suppositories ( another 5ASA) just for the rectum.:ybatty:
Hoping the combo and humira shot last night do the trick.

As a long time sufferer myself, I have much pity for your little boy. :(

Having heard many horror stories about traditional hemorrhoid surgery, I have started to consider Doppler-Guided Hemorrhoid Artery Ligation.

from what I read any surgery on the rectal area is not a good option for Ds since he has crohn's in his rectum ( it cause prolapse and now apparently hemorrhoids :( ) odds of losing the rectum are too high.
hope meds do the trick.

FWIW, MLP, my aunt's crohns was located throughout her GI system, including her rectum and surgery in the rectal area was also not an option for her. I don't know if she had hemorroids and/or prolapse specifically but do know that she had quite a few problems with her rectum until her treatment began to work. Once her crohns was under control, she's had extremely few issues (pain, bleeding, etc.) for years and years now. :ghug: I hope the humira kicks in soon and resolves all these issues!

Hey MLP... so sorry he's struggling with this... My experience with hemrroids was during pregnancy - and I got the "ring" thing you're talking about. They gave me preprationH, told me to increase fluids and try not to bear down so much... given DS issues, not sure if any of that will help..

Not a nice thing to have to deal with. I hope they have some good advice on how to provide relief. My mom has struggled with them and she finds Proctesydel (spelling?) ointment very helpful
