I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was 13 years old. My doctor put me on a lot of Pred. and something also called purinethall (sp?) and then later on asacal (again, I have no idea how to spell these.) Once i got under way on these med.s, my symptoms dissapeared entirely. I thought forever.

I'm 20 years old now, and it's back. I know that I'm extremely lucky to have had very nearly 7 years of Crohn's free life, but now I'm soooo frustrated that it's back.

Here are my questions.

I hated pred.. My face did the whole expanding thing, and it wort of just made me feel bad all the time. What else can I do?

Also, how do I go about getting help? ER? ... and once I do, are they going to have to do a colonoscopy and endoscopy all over again?

Finally, is it possible to get through this without any help from a doctor? can I do this on my own?

Thank you so much in advanced

peace

First I do not advise you to try to do it on your own because Crohns is a damaging disease. The more time it isn't controlled the more damage to your intestines it is doing. With that said, you need to see a Gastroenterologist to help you decide your course of action. If however you are vomiting without relief or have pain that is truly unbearable you should go to the ER. I have no idea if you have to be on the pred again - but aren't you still taking your asacol as it helps you sustain and remain in remission (though it cannot stop you from flaring again.)

Also know stress can bring on a flare. I had a flare when I was 20 and I didn't have another one until this year at age 28 - I know it was stress induced. Welcome to the forum and good luck.
