Hi ya! My name is Liz. I was just diagnosed with Crohns but am doubting my GI doc on it. It showed up in my blood work but nothing else. They did a colonoscopy that came out fine and a upper GI which showed a slight narrowing in bowel but nothing inflamed. The upper GI test made no sense to me because I had horrible pains during this test and nothing but the narrowing showed up. They havent told me anything about a special diet to stick with. They tried me on Lialda and it made me throw up all night. They are giving me samples for a new med that hopefully would work. Im not the greatest pill taker and i do eat right. I get horrible upper abdominal pains, feel full, and an extremely tired all the time. Its hard to take care of a one year old with these problems. Please help.........

Thanks!

Hello and welcome! Just to warn you 'eating right' is not necessarily the best thing to do with Crohn's. If you have narrowing, you could try a low residue diet to see if this helps. We have a wiki about it: www.crohnsforum.com/wiki/low-residue-diet Basically it is easier to digest and less likely that food will get stuck where the narrowing is. As for why nothing has shown up, inflammation is hard to see unless you go in there with a camera! The tiredness might just be due to the illness, but it might be worth getting your bloods checked to make sure you are not anaemic of deficient in any vitamins as it can be hard for our bodies to get the vitamins and things we need with an illness like Crohn's.

Thank you so much! Its just odd that my doctor well the nurse prac. that i see told me to take fiber. Im just so confused. I finally get to sit and talk with the doctor mid october. Thanks again :)

Welcom Lizzi

If you have a narrowing of the intestines, insoluble fiber is the last thing you need. Soluble fiber, like that in benefiber, may be OK though.

Hiya Liz
and welcome

Firstly, try to calm yourself, stress is a huge trigger!
I cannot believe that the nurse pract told you to eat fibre! He/she is obviously not an IBD specialist. Try the low res. diet Rebecca has recommended, it always works for me!
When you've got time (maybe never with a little un!) read the forum sections, get yourself genned up on info, keep a journal, log foods, amounts of diarrhea, frequency or urgency, write questions in readiness for your doc, and record the answers, or take someone with you. Read up on treatments, meds and diet. Knowledge is Power!
Once you have this ammo, your anxieties will reduce.
I wish you well with your appt, glad you found us, any questions, fire away!
lotsa luv

Thank all of yous so much!

Joan. Thats one reason why i think he is diagnosing me wrong. I dont have diarrhea.. I have bad pains that go across the top of my stomach just right under my ribs and in my back. Well im meeting with my regular doc tomorrow to clear some things up and my GI mid october. Ill try that low res diet still!! thank you!!

Hi Liz and :welcome:

Good to see you here. The symptoms for IBD vary widely and not everyone has diarrhoea as a symptom, my daughter certainly didn't. Joan is spot on with keeping a diary, here is a link to some suggestions you might like to include................................

You'll find loads of info and support here so please stick around. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Take care, :)

Hi Liz!! I can't really add anything, just want to say welcome!! Glad you found us!!

If your tests only showed problems in the upper part of your digestive system, that will be why your pain is high up. Diarrhea is more associated with lower GI problems.

Hey Liz:bigwave:
Just wanted to say "HI". Hope you get the answers you need to finally feel some relief from the pain you have been experiencing.

:hang: :goodluck:
