I have been sick for 2 weeks. My temperature reached 103.9 everyday, and it would come down only when I took tylenol. I shiver and get chills when my temperature is very high. I had intense headache and really bad night sweats. I eventually was admitted to the hospital because none of my doctors knew what was going on. I took several blood tests and was tested for many different infectious diseases.
One of my doctors prescribed doxycycline and cipro for 2 possible infectious diseases (a preemptive measure I guess), but so far all of the tests have come back negative. My fever only reaches around 101.5 now.
When I was in the hospital I had a colonoscopy and the doctors found a fistula in my terminal ileum.

My question is, has anyone had symptoms like these that have accompanied a fistula? We still aren't sure if it is an infectious disease or Crohn's acting up.

Hi ClaireBear7 and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry you are having these health issues. It must be very worrying for you. To answer your question, my Crohn's is in the TI and when I was flaring badly, I was eventually diagnosed with a fistula to the bladder. I used to get a temperature and also my stomach was very warm to the touch. I also had an abscess associated with the fistula and I think this is what was causing the fever and I would wake up at night drenched in sweat.
Have they mentioned anything to you about an abscess?

Hi, sorry to hear you are going through this. I had high fever for several days and was admitted to the hospital. CAT scan found an a new abscess had formed on a part of my fistula track that was growing away from the main track and therefore not draining. Have the done any mri or cat scans?

Grumbletum: Thank you very much for responding to my post. I have an abscess, but I have had it for several months. Was your abscess internal or external? The inflammation of my abscess goes down when I receive my Remicade infusion, and then returns toward the end of the infusion cycle. How did they treat your fistula and did the fever last until you treated it?

Sailorluna: Thank you very much for responding to my post. I had an MRE and a colonoscopy while I was at the hospital. My abscess isn't inside by my fistula though. It is external. How did they treat your fistula and did the fever last until you treated it?

I currently have a few abscesses and fistulae and I wake up in the middle of the night soaked from sweat. It's so disgusting and uncomfortable to sleep that way. I toss the pillow, wipe myself down, change my shirt and pants. My diapers get so sweaty too, never mind any pus from drainage. I suppose its just caused by active infection. Do you get chills as well?

Hi again, Clairebear. My abscess was internal - on my bladder with a fistula going between it and my bowel. Trying to remember now, I think I had the most relief from the abscess pain and fever when I was on a courses of antibiotics.
I had to have surgery eventually. The fistula closed for a while on the combination of drugs in my signature, but a few months after stopping the Infliximab, it opened up again.
