I am using Hollister Conform 2 Flexwear Skin Barrier (with border) for an ileostomy.

Two issues come up.

1. The edges stick fine when put on, but tend to partially peel off when showering. How can one contemplate swimming when it doesn't even stay stuck in the shower?

2. after one day of wearing the flange, I sense a constant odor - if I rub my finger on the outside of the flange (below the ring) - I feel it.

Any suggestions??

Thanks everyone

I would suggest trying the tegaderm tape around it to see if that improves both issues for you.

I would also suggest getting samples from other companies and giving them a try. Could be the adhesive on your appliance just wont work for your skin, and perhaps another brand would do alot better for you.

I had that smell as well from Hollister. I've since gone to Convatec and haven't looked back. Actually I can't use any of the tape on the appliances or I get a really bad rash so instead I cut off the tape and use a Eakin seal with a belt. Then I put a piece of tape on before I go in the shower on the top of the wafer so water doesn't leak in. It has worked just fine for me the past several months and I don't have a constant rash nor the smell since I cut off the tape. Sorry for my rant but just ask for all the samples yo can get and redo that process until you figure out what works for you.

I don't use Hollister just for that reason. I use Colopast...the flange is thicker and plastic, but I never get a smell and if it leaks, it takes a while to actually get out from under it....lol (been having that problem lately since I got an abscess...grrrr). But, even with the abscess and the ointment I've been putting on it, I'm still getting 2 to 3 days out of my flanges. I also recommend the Tegaderm..it's been a lifesaver for me. That stuff doesn't come off unless you take it off.

Thanks Jeff, how many days does this last you between changes? And is your an ileostomy or colostomy (makes a difference in frequency of changes).

Thanks

It looks like Conform is a UK product. In the US, this might be the older Centerpoint lock product which seems to be mostly replaced by the "New Image" line.

So my first question is have you tried New Image? Also, Flexwear is their standard wear product, intended more for the low output of Colostomies. Ileo's need the extended wear "Flextend" wafers.

Plus, a barrier ring like Hollister Adapt will do wonders. Anyway this is my 2 cents!

One more thing, my edges don't peel in the shower. Everyone's skin is different so it could be that this tape just does not work well with your skin. I assume you're putting on your wafer on totally dry skin, with no lotions, etc.

Thanks Joe.

Here we only have the Flexwear available - no one heard of Flextend - I have ordered some through ebay.

Nyx, sorry to hear you have developed an abscess, what a pain they are! Just a heads up, the drug that gave it the best kick (before the surgeon cut it out) was clindamycin, he paired it with another drug and for the life of me I can't remember it. All I know is cippro didn't do a thing for it....

I use the same one and dont have the edge peeling problem. Do you use adhesive remover wipes? Make sure all residues are completely removed before applying your wafer. Also, are you using a skin prep before applying it? The skin preps help the adhesives stick better. Also, the adapt barrier rings might be of some use.
