Anyone experience hot flashes or night sweats? I wake up often soaked in sweat no matter how many fans I have on or how low I put the A/C. Also sometimes during the day I feel like I get hot flashes. I would think I was going through menopause if I wasn't only 28! Night sweats happen most often when I am flaring. Daytime hot flashes seem to happen randomly...they have started just recently so I haven't been able to figure out what is going on.

Some people have said it could be glucose levels? Any thoughts?????

me hubby says im nice in the winter and horrible in the summer as i feel like a radiator, I quite often wake up drenched in sweat and it isnt very nice.

I get the night sweats, but not the hot flashes. More like cold flashes! I wake up drenched in freezing cold sweat. Pretty gross.

Jed - No not on pred.

RHOV - now that you say that...I am freezing and sweaty at night, just figured it was from the fan blowing on me. It is gross though. I hate it!

Hi Teeny are you on Humira??? What meds are you on? I am on Humira and get the night sweats but also on Pred and close to premenalpause :-(

I am on Asacol and Prozac...don't think they would give me the sweats would they?

I am 28...didn't think anything menopausal would be affecting me yet. I just had blood drawn again so I'll see if anything shows there. My body has just been so out of whack since being diagnosed with IBD. I have had everything from heartburn to hives...all of which I have never experienced up until the last few months. I feel like I just go from one thing to the next.

I get all sweaty at night sometimes too, just have to hope my pillow will dry faster than I can soak one side lol. Isn't is miserable when you have to get up (and it's always like really late) and put something down on the bed to absorb your sweat so you can go back to sleep.

Of course, I have always been the one person who will sweat for no apparent reason. It could be like 75 degrees outside and once I start to do anything I'm sweating.

I put my money on the Prozac. I can't remember if it was Prozac or Paxil that I was on (I think Paxil, but they are similar anti-depressants) but I used to wake up absolutely drenched. I don't recall it happening during the day, but I wouldn't rule it out. Call the doctor who prescribed it and ask.

The other thing I hate to have to mention as a possible cause is (assuming you're a girl) an early onset of menopause. I'm not sure how they test for that, but you might want to check with your gyno.

I did get hot flashes during one of my flares. I would have to sit by an open window in the winter. During my last flare, I would have to strip down whatever I was wearing when I got on the toilet. (Pretty picture)
Usually though I am freezing. Even in the summer. I'm in a sweater and jeans and everyone else is in shorts. I feel like a little old lady.

Me too, that's why this is so odd to me. I use to always have to have socks on and sat on the couch under a blanket even in summer. Now I feel like I am boiling up half the time. I guess I am still flaring...kinda in waves for me right now. A couple of days of feeling normal and then boom! Sick for a few days. I am on the Crohn's rollercoaster right now!

I do know crohn's can cause spiking fevers... which to me feel like hot flashes. Maybe you should take your temp when you have these... could just be from having fevers.

That actually sounds like the most plausible explanation to me. Whenever I got my "cold flashes," I felt a little disoreinted too, like I do when I have a fever. Feeling cold+sweating+disoreintation=Crohn's fever!

I get extreme hot flashes during the day when my crohns is flaring but for me it is sort of a warning to find a bathroom because it usually means that I really have to go. Usually I am cold all the time so when I start fanning myself in the car my husband knows that he has to find the closest restroom NOW.

I've been having MASSIVE hot flashes, I'm having one right now, I'm sweating like a, um, fallen women in church, and occasional night sweats. Prednisone makes it worse. The night flashes concerned my rheum enough to send me for a CT to rule out lymphoma. Sheesh. I asked the midwife at my last annual exam (and the one before , come to think on it) if she thought I could be in menopause, and she didn't think so. Ugh, I hate it! I have always preferred being cold to being hot.

Teeny, I'm with BUTT on this one. When I'mon the toilet with a flare...I have little more than my b-day suit on.

Other times when I get hot is usually during a flare. Even if I'm not on the toilet or don't feel any discomfort, I've had this disease long enough to realize that a flare is coming.

If they become persistant it could be an infection.

Have your blood sugar checked regardless of if you think it's more likely something else. Sweating/hot flashes like that are the most visible and one of the most common signs of diabetes. I have half a dozen patients with diabetes and each one is soaked come morning.

I have had all that tested even my thyroid. Nothing has come up so far. It is the worst when I am flaring so I just assume that it is due to the inflammation in my body. Maybe getting mild fevers at night.

That's certainly a possibility. These days it's always good to get tested for diabetes. Especially for people who've had a lot of crazy drugs like crohnies.
