I was told by my doctor to take 2 Calcium daily, but I was reading in the net that Calcium blocks activity of meds and other vitamines so you should take Calcium at least 2 hours away from them. What do you do? how do you take them. I'm finding it difficult to take them this far away from meds as I take meds 4 times daily!!!!

I'm sorry man I'm not much help. I can drink milk and eat dairy products so I get my calcium from all of that.Good luck

Hi Mazen,

I take 2 calcium tabs a day too. I take my multivit in the morn (6-7am) with my other meds then take my first calcium around 10am at tea break. I take my second one in the evening 6-7pm. I adjust the times slightly if on antibiotics but generally dont need to change them much with that regime.

Hope you are doing ok

Hi,

When I was first given the calcium tabs I was told to take 2 in the evening with my other medication, but I found that my stomach was feeling a bit more painful when I done that so I spoke to my GI and he said I can take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening, so I do that now and it seems to be better than 2 in the evening.

I'm off them now since I've been taken off pred but I was taking 2 AdCals (calcium plus vit D - maybe only a UK product) a day. I was told to take them at least 2 hours away from any dairy containing products since the body can only absorb so much at a time. I also took them away from my other meds and not both at once, if that makes sense.

My GP told me last week to stop taking calcium as it can aggrevate CD - anyone else heard this ?

I had been taking a general supplement and asked about a prescribed dose due to being on pred again - i had a bone scan a few months back and my bones are older than they should be so in my mind it was important.

MY Gp said however that getting the Crohn's under control was more improtant and that calcium could irritate things.

I never heard that; maybe you should check with your GI. But I read in several books that we with Crohn's should take the Calcium in Calcium Citrate form (not Carbonate), as it's gentler on the body and is more easily absorbed. I get the ones with vitamin D from Solgar
