Tried to have a nice dinner out tonight but got hit with the big D before the check even arrived... not to be gross, but it certainly seemed like the spinach from the main course had made it through. We did linger for coffee so it wasn't super immediate, but probably within an hour of starting main course. Can food really travel through that fast? Cramping like crazy and a massive headache as well.

Is this what a flare is like? My main symptoms in past 2.5 years have been anemia and more IBS type digestive symptoms... nothing this urgent and painful. Currently slightly anemic (tests from 3 weeks ago hgb 9.5, hct 31.5) and have appointment with hematologist Monday and GI Wednesday. Anything these new symptoms make you think I ought to ask about?

Everyone is different. You mentioned you had coffee. When I used to do coffee , it seemed like it went through me pretty quickly.

I"ve had it as soon as a few hours. I think my body knows what i eat before it hits the gut. . . i swear. If i'm going to flare from a meal my body does it almost immediately - within a 1/2 hour.

Food can go pretty quickly. If I have taken a lot of water during the day, had root beer or pepsi, things speed up and the time can be measured in quarters of an hour. I have had some surgery though, and I have absolutely no doubt that it contributes in my case.

I also have had surgery and it contributes.

I have passed food out of me that i ate less than 90 minutes ago a lot of times. I have had times that i have passed my salad before i get to desert.

Look up "stomach dumping syndrome".

That sure sounds like I went through, but the only surgry I have had with my stomach is to have the end that connects to the intestine cauterized twice.

On bad days things like lettuce go through in 20 minutes, no change from before my resection. If I'm not using Imodium or codeine my lunch is usually gone around an hour to 90 minutes later, generally just in time for a 2pm meeting :)
And when it's that fast I can generally recognize what I had to eat...
