So, I have had this flare for over 5 months and I really miss eating real food. I got sick of being on low residue diet, and I miss EVERYTHING that I can't eat.

How long am I supposed to experience this? I know that there won't be any exact answer, but what was your average flare period?

Also, if I ever get out of this, how long do I usually be able to eat like normal people without having to deal with all the consequences? Any chances of lengthening that time?

I'm really fed up with this disease. :/

I am supposed to be in remission and I don't trust my body to go back to eating just anything. I was once in remission from 1997-2005. It really varies. I hate this disease . Let us know how you are doing.

Wow! I was expecting something weeks or maybe months, but it can be years, that is really good.

Actually, I'm not after spicy food or food that is real heavy in fat, because I have never been a fan of such food from the beginning. I'm talking about eating normal meals, not having to drink protein shakes and all these flavored.

I remember when I ate literally 3 french fries, and I was in pain for the following 3 hours as if I have eaten lava.

I really hope that we'll all have a very long remission period.

Ouch. I can't have, among other things, dairy, gluten and nuts.

I were diagnosed in 2014 been sick for like 2 months could not eat only very little soft food wich still caused pain went into remission but with symptoms almost everyday ,now my disease had spread in a flare now since december 2015. Everyone are different. you can even go years in remission like ron said

So, assuming you're in remission and you ate a couple of peanuts, would that cause a flare up? Or just give you some discomfort that would go away by the end of the day?

I don't think that I'll snap out of it anytime soon. I better be going to heaven to enjoy eating all the goodies then.

Good for you! I really hope that my flare will end soon. Thanks for your wishes. :)

I hope it will too.. i know how bad it can be in a flare before my surgery i was in flare for a very long time . Mainly because i just put up with the pain instead of getting myself treated quickly. Something i wont be doing again for sure.. now i push for the best help i can get.
Hope your flare is short lived and please dont put up with things ask for help when you need to. That was my downfall dont let it be yours. Praying for better times for you 🙏

I know how it feels, and I'm really sorry that you have to go through this.

Actually, I'm currently in pain while writing this, but I just gotta endure until god knows when. I have not eaten anything for the past 5 hours, just drank some protein shake and my stomach feels full as if I have eaten a whole turkey. :|

Everyone is so individualized this is such a hard question to answer. Are you on maintenance medications to help your symptoms? Do you follow a diet that you know will help reduce flare-ups by avoiding trigger foods and adhere to liquid diets when in a flare? I recently went through the worse flare ever and lost 32 pounds in 8 weeks and ended up hospitalized. Currently I am in another flare and I now doing weekly injections of Humura and am in daily predisone. After 9 years I am sick of Crohns but I will not allow it to define or defeat me.

With the right treatment for you remission could last any length of time. After my resection and staying on maintenance meds afterwards I've been in remission ever since. That was back in 1999.

Flares are very similar where they will stick around without proper treatment but sometimes symptoms can get worse or improve (which sometimes makes people thing that they're in remission but only imaging tests, colonoscopy etc can prove whether or not you're in remission).

How are you currently treating it besides the liquid diet? Try to avoid any supplement drinks that contain Carrageenan (click the link) as it could do more harm. I believe Ensure Clear doesn't have that ingredient. Unfortunately it's more expensive and tastes like garbage but you do what you have to do. Making your own soups from scratch and drinking just the broth is also good (many members mention making their own bone broth, check out the diet section for recipes).
