I was put on Entocort a week ago. I was wondering for all of you how long it takes on steroids, whether entocort or predisone, before you start feeling better? I am also on Dicyclomine to try to get some relief, but I seem to remember in the past feeling better rather quickly.

Hi Linda, Entocort takes about a few days from what I remember ..IF it is going to work. Since it is for mild to moderate sometimes it may not control the pain. Not like pred it only takes me a day or two in the higher doses. You should be starting to feel better now. 9mg is the normal dose correct? Or 3 pills. Maybe your crohns is in a different stage. Hope you get relief soon.

With Pred...I was feeling better within 24 hours of my first dose!!!
It was that quick.. I was started on 40mg right of the bat...
Hope it's kicking in now Linda..:)
Take care..

I am on day 24 of Pred. (40mg/day) and am still not feeling better. I am newly diagnosed so I am not sure how common it is to go this long without relief from the Pred. I'm wondering if it is possible that it is just not working at all and if so then what do I do...I see the doctor again tomorrow and hope he has a new idea b/c just waiting here sick and hurting is getting a little frustrating!

I hope you start to feel better soon!

Suschex.. Day 24 of 40mg and no relief, could be one of 4 things, you could have polyps or scar tissue, narrowing or spastic colon. You should not be in pain with that high of a dose, an investigation like a colonscopy should be done asap. Let us know what your doctor says ok. :hang:

Sorry to hijack LindaS

I wsa on pred for 2months I think and had little success. Felt a little bit more active but the pain and bleeding never stopped. Guess I was too bad for steroids to work, or they just werent effective for me

Linda - I am very sorry for hijacking this, I was feeling very desperate last night and should have started another thread and allowed this one to continue with your situation.

Pen - I had a colonoscopy 25 days ago that diagnosed CD, biopsies confirmed and CT with barium and IV contrast did as well. I do not have any of the four issues you suggested but so appreciate your thoughts! It has been misdiagnosed for 9 years, active off/on for those years and possibly longer. It has been a constant flare up for the past 11 months. It is throughtout my entire colon but nowhere else. I am hoping it is just going to take time but struggle with feeling very hopeless about the situation as I am sure everyone on here does!

rygon - I am thankful that my bleeding did stop...I'm sorry yours did not. Has anything finally helped you?

Again, I am so sorry for hijacking this post...I will be more respectful next time I need to post.

LindaS - How are you doing today?

Don't sweat the hijacking, suschex! We can sometimes learn stuff when threads get hijacked, because we might skip the new thread.

I slept almost all day today, but within 5 minutes of waking up, I'm in pain again. I've had to hang up on 2 phone calls to run to the bathroom.

Awe Linda, you still dont have any relief. Like I said IF it works it doesnt take long. You maybe in a worse stage at this point. I would see your doctor soon..keep us updated!

thanks suschex, yeh I have been put on remicade and thats done wonders for me. 1st time in 5years my bleeding has stopped for more than 2days :)

LindaS - I'm so sorry you are still struggling so much. I think Pen may have a point about being in a worse stage than you think. I only say this because my GI doc just told me today that I am looking at another 3-4 weeks before I see help from the Pred due to the severity of my Crohn's. I guess I didn't realize my CD was "severe" since it is a new diagnosis and I don't have much understanding of all of this stuff yet.

I hope you feel better and can see your doctor soon!

It usually takes me about 10 days on pred to start feeling better, but the last time it took just over three weeks before I started feeling better. I don't know why it took so long, but I didn't have access to my GI to ask. Worth asking about, maybe you need a higher dose? Hang in there!

And the original question was about Entocort. I never felt better on Entocort alone, it just never did the trick for me. I have used it successfully to wean off of prednisone, and then weaned off Entocort without flaring back up.

It actually took a good while for me to feel better when i first started Prednisolone. I didn't respond well to the combination of drugs they gave me at first to treat CD. In fact when i 1st started my meds the pain intensified ??? I'm okay with them now, just have sore joints all the time
