Curious as to how many people have had a intestinal bacterial infection while or before being diagnosed with crohns or colitis? I have heard of some stories similar to mine where a person has a bacterial infection in their intestines and it didn't show up in multiple stool samples. Only to get sicker and sicker and told it's IBD. Then being in the hospital and given ciproflaxcin intravenously and getting better. Crohns or colitis would not be affected by ciproflaxcin unless the infectious colitis was caused by a infection that could be killed by ciproflaxcin.

Hi, ive had Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth multiple times which ive treated with Metronidazole, it's as a result of having my ileocecal valve removed as a result of my Crohn's. It can be diagnosed by a Hydrogen Breath Test (mine didn't show up in stool samples, don't know if SIBO does...) but I got antibiotics before I took the test. I tend to get antiobiotics now when I get sick as a precaution incase my symptoms are because of SIBO instead of Crohns as some of the symptoms are very similar!
