Do any other parents have a dx of IBS? If so what testing have you had done.

I was dx with ibs in my early 20s, the only tests I had are blood tests and faecal calprotectin which was normal.

I had stomach trouble as a child then in my late teens and before my son had his testing or issues I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy and they found h. Pylori. The meds resolved some issues but not all. Another bout of issues resulted in an ultrasound of gallbladder(no stones) and a hida scan(low percent but in normal range) had gall bladder removed. After C's dx I had another bout of problems and had yet another colonoscopy, small bowel follow through. The GI really expected to find CD but didn't.

He said he would say it was IBS but with C's dx he still suspects CD. I have always felt it was ibs since my issues don't sound like a lot of what I hear members discuss. The GP has labled it IBS.

Also, I think jmckinley is also dx with IBS and her son has CD. Maybe she'll be along shortly as well.

I had many symptoms of CD as a teenager but after scopes was diagnosed with Ceoliac Disease. I am strict with diet but some days still have upset bm's. I would guess that I have a certain amount of ibs too. I also have underactive thyroid and type 1 diabetes so there is a strong autoimmune thing going on in this family!

No IBS, but I'm gluten intolerant and get diarrhea and/or constipation if I indulge in a gluten-ous treat (pun intended). Gluten is one of Jae's big triggers and this kept us from seeking medical help for several years as we thought she just had my problem :(

I've never been dx with IBS. l've had a pain just below my bellybutton to the right for about 6 years. I've seen numerous DRs had 2 colonoscopies and endoscopies, ultrasound , blood tests and nothing was found apart from endometrosis . I was told my appendix might be playing up!!!....for 6 years:yfaint: In the end l just gave up looking for an answer...Now that my daughters been dx with crohns l wonder if l have it too.

I have an unofficial (ridiculous in my opinion lol) diagnosis of IBS from one GI, and another GI, gyno, and GP doc who all "believe" I have Crohn's, yet no one can find it.
Who knows...I've just learned to live with it and hope for the best because quite frankly I'm pretty sick of doctors and tests and surgeries :ybatty:

Years ago, my husband was told he had IBS, after upper and lower scopes. I sometimes wonder if it's not IBD. He watches what he eats (especially acidic, fried and spicy foods) but, even then, he sometimes has periods of nausea, pain, etc. He also has acid reflux and has taken nexium for years to control it.

I was dx with ulcerative colitis at 28 (20 years ago) but have been in remission for most of the last 18 years or so.. yeah!

Oh, me, me... Long history here of stomach problems, starting in early 20s... IBS, gastritis, duodenitis, removal of gall bladder, etc. I also wonder if I may be part of this link between my son... and my grandmother who did have Crohn's.

Edited to add that me and my mom joined Evan for 2 years of a gluten free diet before his diagnosis, and I have to say that I felt worlds better then, even though my GI has confirmed tests that I don't have celiac.

Both my husband and I were dx with IBS. Frist me, in mid-20s before kids, then him in his 30s, each after sigmoidoscopy showed no other issues. Mine is controlled by minimizing wheat (though not celiac), his by increasing fiber. Interesting thought.

Yes, I was dx'd with IBS in my mid 20's. It is mostly stress related, so you can imagine what a treat Ryan and I are when his Crohn's flares up! I lost 8 pounds when he was in the hospital last summer (of course, I found it this month because I haven't been running!) I am also lactose intolerant, so I avoid dairy.

I also have IBS, usually stress related or if a large meal is eaten. How interesting that so many of us have this and the kiddies have cd, hmmmm.

I have been offered a referral for scopes both ends. My symptoms currently are very mild.

CRP 1 mg/L (<5)
ESR 8 mm/hr (3-12)

T-bili 23 umol/L (3-15)

Calprotectin
<19.5

Decision time

My reflux symptoms become much worse, while still avoid milk products. I have very slight pain on my lower left side.

Reflux has settled again may have be caused by b12 supplements which I have ceased. B12 increased from 297 to 1068 with two months of supplements.

Scope is easy
Do it
Plus if there is nothing at all found then you have the " you have reached that age" scope taken care if and nothing else is needed for x numbers of years :)
