I have Crohn's Disease but fortunately, I am doing well on my medications. I want to know how to lose weight effectively and safely. I've joined a gym so that I can exercise but I also want suggestions about diet. I think I have a low metabolism so I gain weight easily on little food:ymad:

I see ads about diet pills but I don't want to take any of them because I don't want them to cause flares.

I'd try to stay away from any pills because you don't know if they will affect you and look at the weight epidemic. These pills aren't working or helping much.

Exercise is key and lean proteins, and lower intake of dairy and carbs will likely help you drop weight.

I usually do weight watchers and that seems to be effective. Although it requires lots of fruits and veggies. Sometimes that is bothersome to me. I have Crohns as well.

Best way is definitely diet and exercise :D Even changing small things can make a huge difference, like making sure you are properly hydrated. I managed to lose 50 lbs over the course of 18 months by making really small changes, but good ones. The biggest change was getting a dog and having an excuse to go for walks :D Though I can't really do them anymore, thankfully it's too cold here for walks at the moment, lol

If you can afford it, I would advise seeking a reputable and knowledgable trainer who can work with you on a nutrition plan. Losing weight isn't always about cutting down in carbs and fat. It is essential you get enough good carbs and even more importantly good fats. I am a powerlifter when I'm not flaring and I was following a plan before I had this flare. I was eating more than I have ever eaten in my life but was dropping body fat as I was eating the right stuff, e.g. Avocado, lots of lean quality protein, sweet potato, rice, nuts, coconut oil, organic butter (believe it or not is a good fat as is fall fat yogurt).

Training and eating clean is the best way to lose body fat but not strength. Don't become a skinny fat, make sure you eat well to fuel your body and give you essential goodness to function too.

Just wanted to weigh in -- Weight Watchers doesn't require that you eat any specific foods or avoid any specific foods. Although servings of fruits and veggies dairy are recommended, they are by no means required.

Personally I've been adding more cooked veggies to my diet to make them more digestable. I bring my lunch to work more so that I have control over the types of food that go into my system. When I cannot eat a homemade lunch or dinner, I look for lighter options or smaller portions of things that I know won't damage my system personally.

My diet overall consists now of more veggies, some lean protein (chicken and salmon, primarily), eggs, quinoa, brown rice, greek yogurt. And yes sweet potatoes and avocados are included in that. I make a fresh guacamole and top a sweet potato with that and some greek yogurt...LOVELY and DELISH!. Also, I drink a ton of water. I usually stick to water, tea and the occasional alcoholic beverage. Watch your portions! I bought a food scale for my kitchen and realized I was consuming much more than my eyes believed I was.

Diet is very important and I tend to eat clean majority of the time, but what has especially helped me personally is making sure to keep physically active as many days as possible even if it's just going for a walk and getting in those 10,000 steps. I strength train via bootcamps 1 -2x weekly and now do 2-3 days of cardio in addition to that.

Losing weight is all about calories in and calories out. You want to get proper nutrition though to make sure you aren't just dropping muscle mass but actual fat and useless weight. It's all about the little changes like giving up soda or cutting your carb intake down from useless carbs to good carbs. You also want to practice portion control and retrain your stomach. Instead of eating three big meals, try eating six smaller ones to keep your metabolism going. Also drinking lots of water keeps you filling full as well as lean protein and fiber. If you eat a handful of nuts and drink a bottle of water before you eat you'll find it's a lot harder to overeat.
