Have any of you been on a biologic, either 6-MP or Azathioprine, and Prednisone at the same time? What was your experience?
I've been on Humira for about 5 months and was still experiencing symptoms and flaring about every other week, but only mild active inflammation showed on my CT. However, my GI decided to add on 6-MP because I was symptomatic. I was a little uneasy at the idea, but decided to trust my doctor. Well at the 2 week mark of the 6-MP and Humira combo, I developed erythema nodosum pretty badly on my legs and arms. My GI was concerned and put me on a fast 5 week taper of Prednisone to take care of it and to help while the 6-MP takes effect. She also asked if I'd had my Humira levels checked (I had, they're all normal).
I'm a little scared to be on so much medication, especially since I was considered mild to moderate when diagnosed. I've said I really don't mind dealing with symptoms here and there as long as I'm not in constant flare, but my doctors have been hell bent on remission.
I know these drugs have major benefits for helping with the disease and kicking that inflammation down. I'm just a little scared and would really love to know what everyone else has been through!
