I am considering humira but I am hesitant based on my history of being imuran and it not working but having months of sinus infections. What are your experiences with humira- long and short term effectiveness and side effects?

I've only been on the Humira for 16 months but so far so good. Fistulas gone, pain and inflammation gone. Tired tho (extremely), but whether thats the Humira or the Crohn's I'm not sure. I have extra precautions(xray once a year) as I have tested positive for TB in my life before Crohns. I've only had one bout with bronchitis since I started which is fabulous as I would have had at least two maybe three episodes per year before. BUT everyone reacts differently to drugs and illness so you really would have to try it to see for yourself. If you do , I sincerely hope it is the one that does the trick,

side effects i have had were some headaches when i went from every other week to once a week but they went away after a month or so. i do get a few more chest colds. my big issue was i got shingles. Shingles is a virius that lives in you after the chicken pox. you usually only get it when your immune system is week. It took around 4 months to work.

Thank you both for the info! I actually had shingles once when I was having a bad flare and taking prednisone. It sucks because I'm a really healthy person, and my immune system is awesome when I'm not taking immunosupressives. I have been managing my symptoms-including a fistula through the specific carbohydrate diet and asacol but I have been experiencing a lot of inflammation gas and bloating again. I wish there was something that helped that didn't leave us so open to picking up viruses. This year I didn't get a cold for the entire winter but last year when I was taking Imuran I had a sinus infection for almost four months.
