I just gave my son his biweekly injection and half of it leaked out. Apparently I did not have enough pressure on his leg. Should I still wait 2 weeks before giving him another injection? Or wait and see if he has any symptoms? I am so frustrated right now!!!

I know it's frustrating, but I promise it will be ok! It might be good to give your physician a ring. I know many of our members have been told when an injection misfired or "leaked" that it is okay, as long as they got most of the dose. But others have contacted the manufacturer of Humira and been sent a replacement dose. It may depend on your situation, where you are in treatment with Humira, how your symptoms are doing, etc. But I think if in the end he just misses a dose, the Humira will still stay at what is called "therapeutic levels" until you are able to get the next dose, so even if he just misses this dose it will probably be ok.

Yea! I mean these are all blanket statements. If you're at a place where Humira isn't working well for you and you're having breakthrough symptoms and you're already pretty sick, it might be more worrisome than if you're doing okay and responding well to it. If that makes sense. So his doctor hopefully knows his case well enough to know what to do.

Let us know what his doctor says. It will be good to have more information of what people are recommended to do in this situation in the future.

The nurse just called back and said not to give him an additional injection since we really did not know how much leaked out. She said it was better for him to have too little than too much. DS just had blood work completed last week and his numbers were great, so we just need to stay on his current schedule.

Whew! Thanks everyone!

Ok, so the nurse called back and said the doctor wanted him to have his next injection next week instead of waiting 2 weeks. I guess the doctor and nurse do not think alike!!
