I have been on humira for 3 years with no problems and it has given me remission. Until recently. I am pretty sure I have developed psoriasis. I am not a dr, but I am pretty sure. I can't get in to see my GP, he's on a leave. I am scheduled to see my GI May 26, is it necessary for me to see him earlier about this? The "possible" psoriasis is not bothering me and is a very small patch.
Do I call tomorrow to try and get in sooner? Or can it wait till May 26? I am thinking I might be able to wait since it is not bothersome at all and I'm not sure I will have to go off humira since it treats humira.

Let me know what you think.

I think it could probably wait. I've got a bit of psioriasis from it as well but it's not so bad. If anything, I would ask if you could see a dermatologist about it since it's a skin condition. In the meantime you could see if you could get some hydrocortisone cream (if you're comfortable with that) for treating it, or a good moisturizer.

Theocean, did your GI keep you on humira after seeing psoriasis? I think I have a cortisone cream I can use in the meantime.

I mentioned it the last time I saw him, and also my family history of it (my grandmother has it) and he's still kept me on it, yes. It hasn't been that bad, though. And that cortisone should work!

It's itchy for me but it's gotten a bit better lately. At its worst it becomes scabby and I have to try really hard not to pick or itch, and I've had enough experience with eczema before this that I at least know what I have to avoid.

Honestly, I have a hard time differentiating because I've been told that I have both, so I consulted an article comparing the two here. There's also multiple page journal here explaining in more depth.

Hi, I just wanted to add that any new symptom should be reported right away. They'll tell you if you should come in.

My Grace gets any and all rashes. She already had eczema before humira and we (as in GI) talk about psoriasis and what to do if humira brings it on. He told me that he wouldn't take Grace of it right away unless it was bothersome and or spreading.

:)And on a unrelated topic, if that's your baby, what a cutie.

Thx Farmwife! That's my son, my heart and soul. He gives me the courage to fight this disease and take good care of myself.

Ok, thanks. I'm not sure, I have a small patch on my calf, looks like a little red dry spot, doesn't itch or hurt.

Grace is prone to get it on her legs and her neck for eczema.
We find if we start treating at the dry skin stage we can head it off....but not always.

 thanks, enjoy them when there babies. They grow up to fast and before you know it their calling themself a princess and has an attitude to match.

Do you have any more info on this? When I take my humira I often get itchy, almost rash-like symptoms on my legs. Could this be the start of the condition that you're talking about? Have been on Humira 1.5 years

Is it where you inject? If it is, it might actually be an injection-site reaction instead. About 10% of people on Humira get it according to my GI, myself included. With Eczema/Psioriasis, it's usually flaky/scabby or just really dry, whereas if it's an injection-site reaction, it would be raised, puffy red skin that's really itchy and can last for a little while. (At least in my experience.)

I get overall dry skin from the injections and my hands get especially bad.
But the inside of my elbows and down part of my neck get a reddish brown patch that's dry and kinda funky looking. When I take my shirt off it looks like a really raggedy sunburn. The patches on the inside of my elbows get smaller and less noticeable a couple days before the injection and get bright red the day after. They're about the 50mm across. My GI just has me monitor them and if they suddenly get larger, I'm to call.

Yeah, that sounds like eczema to me. Remicade caused a similar reaction for me. Are you using anything to treat it?

I use bag balm on my hands before bed. It's slick, smelly, and takes forever to dry. Sometimes it's still moist in the morning when I get up if I use a heavy coating. Works wonders for the dry skin. Two days without it in the winter and I'm flaking off and bleeding.
For the inside of my elbows I use one of three lotions (depends on whats on sale): Gold Bond healing, Aveeno, or Kiss my Face unscented. All three keep me from getting too itchy.

I use Aveeno too. Otherwise, on really bad spots, I use a hydrocortisone cream from my dermatologist. I've also found that emu oil or tea tree oil works well if it's particularly stubborn, too. (But be warned, it's obviously a bit oily.)
