I have been on Humira since July 2010 for CD. I wanted to share with others
what has worked for me to eliminate side effects. I use the pen and inject it in
my thigh. The idea of putting a needle in my stomach was scary to me.
Before I inject, I put an ice pack directly on my skin to get it really numb and cold. When using ice for other reasons, I would never put it directly on the skin since it can cause skin problems, but for the injection I find it works since it is only on for about 2 minutes. Immediately after injection, I put ice on again, but this time I usually put the ice on over the band-aid or paper towel.
I avoid a warm shower for about an hour, or if I do need to shower I face away from the shower head to keep as much water as possible off the injection site. This helps decrease the likelihood of skin problems.
Occasionally I get bruises and lasting burning at the injection site. One time I had a bad stomach ache after injection, but the pharmacy said to make sure you inject on a full stomach, and so that has helped.
