Hello

I was diagnosed with CD 3 mths ago. Since then I have discovered 4 neighbours also have CD or UC. Cooincidence? We were all diagnosed at 28-30yrs and have all lived in the street our whole lives. We live next to a golf course and think the pesticide sprays which used to linger above us are to blame.

Any suggestions?

Um, sounds a bit suspicious to me! Some say that CD takes 8-10 yrs to manifest though. Have all of you lived in that area a long time? What other things could you all have in common?

well 3 people that were in my year in school have crohns disease that i know of.. thats 3 out of 100 pupils..when the chance of getting the disease are a couple of hundred to 1..

I work in a small office, fluctuates between 14-18 people, but 3 of us have IBD: Procitis/UC/Crohns :ywow:

I think I may have found the cause. Before our housing estate the land used to be a dairy farm. There is a link between a bug found in cow poo that will stay in the soil and water ways for years and can cause autoimmune disease when it gets into your system. Doc have developed a couple of meds to get rid of the bug from your system. Apparantly is is very hard to get rid of. Interesting read if you wanna google it.

It's very coincidental you found this out, my Dad has been doing research and found that cows can get a bug that makes them symptomatic of crohn's disease and it's passed through the milk and infects us, manifesting disease. In Australia they are claiming to send people in remission for at least two years by treating with an antibiotic cocktail. It's something we're still looking into as well as other possible toxins.

there is a doctor is Sydney who is currently trialing a combination of 3 antibiotics to get rid of the bug from your gut that they believe causes CD. i know of a woman who lives in Sydney who is a guinea pig.

Try oiling the belly, Mitzi. Olive oil or organic cold pressed sesame or coconut oil. Gentle massage round and round up right side across top of belly and down left side. Works for me - let us know if it works for you.

Interesting stuff about these bugs
When I was first diagnosed in the days before the internet was available and we had to rely on the consultants, my consultant told my mum that we didn't know exactly how I'd gotten CD as it doesn't appear to run in the family or anything. He discussed the possibility of this thing called a MAP bug which comes from milk and dairy products and he suggested that if you get any tears or problems in your intestine and it gets in you can get crohns. In a normal gut it just passes through. I had dislocated my coccyx and ?perf'd my bowel shortly before getting my first symptoms . . . . .
No doc has ever mentioned this since tho.

Well I was in Dorset with two of my children and husband in about 1960 and got this tummy thing! Went to Docs in the village who gave me kaolin and morphine (or something). When we went home I was sent to see a specialist who thought I had UC. Wasn't until many years later they found it was Crohn's. Different name same horrible condition. I can't take their drugs and I've tried many over the years because the side effects are as bad as the condition so apart from one or two courses of prednisolone over the years i take absolutely nothing for it. Sometimes I'm really bad with the runs 21 times a day and night and sometimes (like now) I go into remission for a year or two. Thank goodness we have the internet now and all you nice people out there as it is so comforting to be able to compare notes and ask others questions. I'd better stop as I'll just go on rabbiting! All the best Monkey.

Yes it is called the MAP bug. Lets hope the doc in Sydney has a breakthrough cuz i am unable to take any meds also due the horrific side affects
