I'm bummed

So, some of you know, I used to be in my highschool band, and you have to be physically fit, and do a lot of push ups. I used to do at least like 60-70 straight, and over a 100 in a day. Which isn't bad for a 16 year old, 5'2" girl.

Now I'm bummed. I could only do 30 straight push ups, real push ups, not the "girl" push ups, without getting out of breath. I just did 40 straight just now, which is a little better, but still...

70 push ups was alike a warm up, and to be out of breath after only 30-40, well it sucks. I can definitely feel my sore muscles.

Just venting my frustrations.

I hear you!
I was very phyisically fit myself, was in martial arts and self defense classes-
used to have muscles! Ha! Those days are long gone. I'm happy when I' not
starving to death now, or hobbling around like an arthritic 80 year old woman.
It is very depressing. But I'm just grateful to be alive after all I've been through.
So I can completely sympathize! Vent away!

Push ups for band?
Your Band Dir. must be a sadist!

I was on the drum line in HS & we never had to do anything like that.

But then again she knew we didn't do much of what she told us to do. :D

Don't worry, now that you are feeling better, you will be doing those pushups again in no time!! What instrument do you play?

Good God - I'm tired by the time I leave the house in the morning.
Then my legs are tired by the time I climb a flight of stairs to work.
Crohns08 - you'll get it back, you just have to build slowly. Crohns takes a huge toll on the body when it's acting up. You'll get it - don't worry!

most people can't even do 30 "girl" pushups, never mind real ones, so i think you still come out ahead. :)

there was one point where i tried to play tennis in the middle of a flare. i was on the bench the whole season; i couldn't run, much less walk.

your muscles will rebuild, don't worry!

TN - really? Most marching bands I know give like 15-30 pushups per mistake. That's how it is here.

kromom1 - I used to play the trumpet. I quit, and I haven't touched my instrument since summer!

RHOV - yikes! I remember playing tennis! I couldn't even imagine getting on the courts even right now!

Everyone - Thanks for the support. I just hope my muscles come back sooner rather than later.

as i mentioned somewhere else, i was in colorguard for all of high school and YES we did the mistake pushups as well!
it would be 10 or 20 per depending on our instructors mood. except this rule was just for us guard, band didnt do that. then we got new instructors who were less intense and no more pushups lol.

i used to be so fit as well. i was a decent runner and had pretty developed muscles from guard. chucking metal into the air will do that lol. now they are all gone :( and i cant even really exercise due to the anemia. a flight of stairs makes my heartrate go insane. i cant even imagine getting back into guard now. at my lowest point i was competing with a hemoglobin of 6.5 and i have absolutely no idea how i made it through a 10 minute show.

well i guess we can just hope that relief of symptoms will rebuild strength. keep workin out if youre able!

i used to play soccer and basketball for years, now I can't even run a couple of minutes without losing my breath and stopping completely.

Maybe I was just that good. ;)
kidding.

we were a bunch of ruffians & thugs. we practiced behind the band hall, so we could smoke. :eek2:

I hate that you have given up your trumpet. Even if you can't play in the band, you could still play for your own enjoyment, couldn't you? Or is it too hard with getting out of breath so easily? (I don't know how it is with brass instruments, I play piano).
