Children with the highest intake of vegetables, fruits, fish and dietary fiber were significantly protected from Crohn's disease compared with those with the lowest intake of these foods (p < 0.001), the researchers report in the September issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.

"More interestingly, however," Dr. Amre added, "a higher ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids was associated with higher risks — or a higher ratio of omega-3/omega-6 was associated with protection."

Thanks for that too, Mazen!

I was a carb fiend but am so grateful that my husband eats tons of fruits and veggies. My daughter so far (2 years old in a few weeks) has been raised on lots of good food and LOVES it. She has also eaten lots of yogurt. Now that I know I have Crohn's and am aware of the genetic component, I am going to continue to make an effort to minimize her processed / bad fat intake.

I guess that's why I had so much diarrhea. I never oiled it, and my seal started leaking ;-) OK, so I'm being fascetious. Just that there are certain fish I can't eat, due to their oil/fat content (like, I really miss salmon).. Truth is tho, I never looked at the content (fat, saturated or unsaturated) of fish oil. Maybe I should checkout both.

I also saw a recent health post on the effects of diet on breast cancer. Seems if you google it, you'll get more than 9 million hits, many claiming that diet will cure it, but all of the research so far has yet to link a direct benefit. Just that folks eating a well balanced diet fare better in all of life, even if they're battling serious disease

Yeah people always think they have the best diet, till they get sick. And I know almost all the fish oil pills have glycerin in them, which causes me to have some diarrhea.
