Children with the highest intake of vegetables, fruits, fish and dietary fiber were significantly protected from Crohn's disease compared with those with the lowest intake of these foods (p < 0.001), the researchers report in the September issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
"More interestingly, however," Dr. Amre added, "a higher ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids was associated with higher risks — or a higher ratio of omega-3/omega-6 was associated with protection."
