immune system and appendix

at what age does the immune system fully devlop and stop "growing"? also, does anyone knoe what the appedix is for and why i havent seen much research done on the link of the appendix and the developement of disesaes, espeically gi disease like IBD?

Hey not sure of the age but usually after puberty, could be around 18 give or take for the immune system. Brains dont fully develop until 22ish. Appendix is bascially useless and no need for it to be there. Not sure of its function. but here is a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermiform_appendix.

I had mine out, because it was "supposidly microscopically" leaking. Why do you ask? If I may...

well this is an auto immune disease and if people are getting it at ages after the immume system develops, that doesnt make much sense to me. how you can be healthy and free of ibd then have a trigger if the immune system isnt still developing? maybe that means you can change factors of the immune system.

and since we dont know much about the use of the appendix maybe it is somehwo linked crohns and colitits? just seeing if anyone did any research or any theroies

Bob, I don't think it works like that with the immune system. Even when it is developed, it still has to respond to changing threats, and repair itself. The whole body does. So there's still chances for it to go wrong.
