I had a fistulotomy done back in November last year for a fistula. Everything healed well but it only healed half way. I went to my colorectal surgeon and he said it was over granulating. He then applied silver nitrate to the wound. When I got home, to my horror I see that the silver nitrate was not only on the wound but the surrounding skin as well. I tried to wash it off but it doesn't want to come off. It's black and gray and it peeling my skin off making it look red. Is there anything I could do and will it heal? Please help me. Please... 😔

Hello Dario welcome to the forum
Are you able to go to the emergency room
They could advise you and treat the area
Otherwise you could call your doctor for help
It will likely heal in time but you should let the surgeon know
what happened
Feel better soon

Nearest one is horrible I place. Today is day two of this and I'm just trying to get through the day. Can't call the CRS until Monday but I doubt he will be helpful. He doesn't care at all.

Hi Dario,
I'm sorry I have no personal experience of this but I just wanted to send my support your way. I really hope you can get some medical advice quickly and it sounds like you need a new colorectal surgeon because not caring about your patients just isn't good enough.

I've just had a quick search for some info online and read this
"This medicine may cause chemical burns or tissue damage if not used properly. Make sure to remove this medicine quickly after you apply it. Ask your doctor if you have any questions before you use this medicine."

"Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Blistering and peeling of skin where medicine is applied.
Pain, swelling, or reddened skin where medicine is applied."

All that leaves me even more concerned for you. Is there not a local ER where you can seek help? I think that would be appropriate.

All the best
