Has anyone experienced increased appetite with azathioprine? I have not seen increased appetite as a side effect for azathioprine and was wondering if anyone else has had this while taking it. I have been extremely drowsy while I have been taking it and thought the drowsiness could cause me to eat more.

I'm on Azathioprine too, and I also have increased appetite. I share your exact feelings--there is no increased appetite as a side-effect. I don't know how that works out but, different people experience it diferently, I suppose.

How long have you been on azathioprine? If it is a couple months, the best case scenario is that your bowel is healing and the appetite is coming back because of it. You are correct though that lack of sleep can contribute to more eating. I believe that is actually one of the major contributors to obesity in North America, a place where most people don't get enough sleep. It's probably just as much to blame as fast food and junk food but it doesn't get the press.
