Hi everyone, I have been diagnosed for over two years now and something new is happening. I have started being extremely sick to my stomach almost every day now. the last two days I have had indigestion or reflux so bad that it has caused me to throw up. Does anyone else experience this? Could this possibly mean my crohn's is starting to move upward into my stomach? I looked for information on the internet and in this forum (since you guys are my best source for real information) and I can't find a lot of information on this. I need some help, last night I actually woke up throwing up all over the bed (from the indigestion). NOT FUN in the middle of the night. I just moved to Southern California and am in the process of finding a new GI and making an appointment. I would like to hear of any similar experiences and what you did to relieve the indigestion and nausea. I'm taking zofran or phenergen for the nausea and regular old tums for the indigestion (for now).

Thanks so much!
Kim

Hello Alohakim
Sorry to hear that you are having a bad time.
It is possible for the crohn's to have caused problems in your stomach but als maybe you have developed unrelated ulcers.
When I have upper GI problems I find help from Nexium, and other proton pump inhibitors.
Your doctor would need to give a prescription for these.
When something new happens then it is time to see your GI., sooner is better.
Hope you will soon get some help and
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Hi i have crohns and had the same issues, dr put me on parriet and life is great again!! Good luck!!

I don't have much in the way of answers, but I can definitely empathize with you. I seem to have both IBD and GERD and they act up independently of each other. My IBD is in remission but my GERD has been getting worse and worse lately and I've been refluxing a lot. I actually just underwent testing to see what my stomach acid is doing - something called a pH impedance test. I'm waiting on the results of that and will most likely undergo further testing for my GERD. I've been on Zantac, Prilosec, and now Nexium - I failed them all. Prilosec worked great when I first started it but then slowly and gradually lost effectiveness, and now I'm having the same problem with Nexium (Zantac never worked for me and Tums hardly work either).

Have you had an upper endoscopy lately? That would be able to see if there's anything like inflammation/gastritis or ulcers. They could do biopsies to see if it's IBD-related or not. It could also check for things like hiatal hernia. That would probably be a good first step. Hang in there - I've had those moments too where I went from soundly asleep to suddenly awoken by a horrible reflux attack (once I was actually having a dream before I awoke, and in the dream I was having an awful reflux attack - turned out it wasn't just a dream after all!).

I had the same problem, which turned out to be an H-Pyori infection that moved up, into my Stomach. The test for H-Pyori came back negative, but I treated myself for it because the testing is not 100% accurate.

All symptoms went away and have not come back in several years. I should mention that all of this started because of a stricture, although that is probably not normally the case. Just something to be aware of.

Hope you can get it resolved.

Dan
