I have IBD and recently discovered my 1 yr old son had a perianal abscess. He got sick very quickly within the 24 hrs after I discovered it which ultimately ended with him having to be transferred to the Children's Hospital and having surgery immediately after late Sunday evening for I&D and to explore to see if it was a fistula or just localized abscess. Turned out to just be an abscess about the size of a half dollar filled with a lot of pus but no fistula. They did a vessel loop drain and he was a new baby after surgery. He ate, was not vomiting anymore nor had a fever. And the site looked amazing! No redness or swelling. They sent it to pathology but said not to be surprised if it came back as Staph or MRSA and continued to treat him with strong Iv antibiotics. He was discharged yesterday on Tylenol and Augmentin and has since had awful diarrhea obviously. I've been giving him baths right after each bm as instructed but today it seems he's having a lot of the same redness and hardness like he did prior to the I&D and very little drainage. I put a call into his surgeon and we are suppose to see her tomorrow to check my concerns. I figured I'd come here in hopes to get advice on how to help him and if the redness/hardening is normal. My concern also is that perhaps he has IBD also. He does have similar symptoms but the pediatricians said it would be very early for him to have it even though I sure have had symptoms my whole life and was dx as a child. *sigh* I'm just nervous
