Intersphincteric Abscess

So I thought I had what would be my 4th perianal abscess. My doc and I were going to try something new and go on Entocort and lessen my dose of azathioprine from 150mg to 50 mg because I've been anxious about long term side effect (I'm 24 and have already been on the aza 150 for 5 years). But after telling him about the abscess he said I needed to stay on the aza 150mg.

Anyway, just got the abscess checked out by a colorectal surgeon and it turns out it's an interspincteric abscess. I have found some info on these, but not a whole lot of practical info. It looks like they're a lot less common than the perianal ones.

Does anyone have any experience with this type? Any wisdom to share? Like I said, I'm experienced with the perianal ones, but those can be taken care of right there at the office, I have to go to the hospital tomorrow morning and put under to treat this one...

Thanks for any help!

Hi, I have had two abcesses down there, i feel for you, i didnt at the time know about the CD, and I think the second time round it took about 6 months before i could sit, it was hell. I hope yours is fixed real quick. I ended up with less control of the sphincter than is desired, had a scan of it.. (freaky to have a ultrasound of my anal sphincter but ... ). Good luck. I hope they are able to stop you having any more.

Thanks for the response. I have been worried about the amount of control afterwards, it's hard for me to tell if I have gas or if I need to go to the bathroom now, but it's only been a few days so I really hope it gets better. The doctor keeps saying how it shouldn't hurt, but it's certainly tender, I don't see how cutting into the muscle could possibly not hurt afterwards...
