I was searching the web for new treatments for Crohn's disease and came across this site. I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Riley (no, not really) and I was diagnosed in 1996. I've had 2 bowel resections (1999 and 2010) I've been on just about everything and I'm currently taking Humira once a week. I feel like the Humira is not working as well hence my search for new treatments :pale:

It looks like there are going to be a lot of new drugs coming on the market in the next couple of years...which is promising but I wish they were coming sooner.

I was also wondering about the owner of this site...was this started by someone or is this a drug company?

Anyway I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me :ybiggrin:

Welcome Riley, We're here to support you in anyway that we can. We all have our Bad days and good. But if there's anything that we can do or I can do to help just let us know. This website is not affiliated with a pharmaceutical company.

Hello Riley and welcome to the forum :)

What symptoms are you currently getting that makes you feel that the Humira is no longer working? What meds have you been on previously and have you ever tried anything on the diet route? We do have a treatment forum that is worth checking out to see if there is something new to you here: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16.

Wishing you all the best.

Riley,

Welcome to the site. I found it myself this year and have made many new friends that have been so helpful as we guide our teenage daughter through her diagnosis and treatments for Crohns.
I am sure the owner of this site will get back to you soon. David is very caring and has helped me through several concerns I have had for our daughter.

take care and I hope you find new friends and support you are looking for.

Hi Riley and welcome to the community :)

What symptoms are you experiencing that make you feel like the Humira isn't working?

This site was started back in 2006 by Michael Yarmolinsky and myself. As mentioned above, we're not affiliated with any pharmaceutical company or any company that in any way markets products or services to people with IBD. We strive to remain as bias and conflict free as possible.

Hi David,

Thanks for the welcome, this site rocks! Seriously, I think this is the best site I've come across and I can't believe I've missed it all these years

I'm not having major symptoms .... mild pain in my right lower side where the resections were....just feelings that are hard to describe but lead me to think that the Humira isn't working as well as it was. But I feel great today so just staying positive :)

Hi Welcome to the Site

I am glad you are having a good day today, We are all friendly on here so welcome x

I'm glad you're feeling great today! And I'm pleased you're enjoying the site as well :)

It may be worth a trip to your GI so they can evaluate if you have some inflammation coming back or not. You asked about other treatments so:

- If you've done well on Humira but it stops working, Remicade (infliximab) would likely do you well since you did well on Humira.

- There's a possibility of adding azathioprine (Imuran), 6-MP, or Methotrexate to your current cocktail in case your body is making antibodies against the Humira. Or they MAY switch you to one of those.

- For alternative treatments, Low Dose Naltrexone is very exciting to me.

- For supplemental treatments, medical marijuana if it's available to you helps a lot of people. I'm a fan of Turmeric, and then of course there are dietary treatments such as the paleo diet and specific carbohydrate diet.

We have threads on each of these around the forum. Let me know if you need help finding any of them.

I've been on Humira for nearly 2 years. I was on Remicade for almost 5 years when it failed and I had my 2nd bowel resection.

I'm heading to the doctor next week so we'll see what he says. I've already been on Imuran and 6-MP and both didn't help....I'm scared to try Methotrexate actually.

I'm a huge fan of medical marijuana so I do use that.....how do you use Turmeric???

Hey Riley and welcome!
I am happy to read about your excitement on this website, I felt the same way when I found it. Its a great place to go to go for questions, advice , or to vent cry or laugh. You said that your pain is where your resection was? Is it possible they didn't remove all of the infected bowel? Or there is a lot of scar tissue build up? I know every once in a while I get sharp pains where I had my colon fixed and I have been told its scar tissue or when I flare up i notice my stomach aches there first. I am sorry to hear that Humira might not be working anymore. Hopefully you and your doctor can figure out the next step together. I have been hearing about a lot of drug studies for new Crohn's medications and I am excited to see what they have come up with, hopefully sooner than later! Let us know how your appointment goes next week!

Hmm, if you've already been on Remicade, that throws a wrench in the works as I don't think Cimzia (another tnf blocker) is approved in Germany yet. What does your doctor say about all this?

Turmeric is a supplement. You can read about it here.
David I was on remicade and had to go on methotrexate It does break down the antibodies. In order for me to go on Humira , another tnf blocker. This was a recommendation from one of the top doctors in the field whose text book you've read. Back to being individualized?
