Hello! I just signed up on here today because I am in desperate need of some support.
I do not have Crohn's, however I was diagnosed with Colonic Inertia after almost two years of not being able to pass a bowel movement, vomiting, swollen abdomen, bowel obstruction symptoms, etc. To make a long story short, I had a colectomy and my ileus was connected to my rectum.
By week 8 post-op colectomy I was still in terrible pain. I was admitted with a suspicion of obstruction. This turned out to be an intussusception, where my intestine has telescoped into itself. A flex scope was performed that discovered it. A barium enema was done to correct it. Then I was sent home and told I am fine. But 7 days later I had another episode and was again admitted for another week.
This time a small bowel follow through was done which was inconclusive. So I was stabilized, unplugged and sent home with the same symptoms. Vomitting with every meal, dark stool, terrible pain in the same area as before. My surgeon mentioned the need to resection me again if this reoccurs. But so far it hasn't gotten bad enough for them to take me seriously and fix it. I find that when I do eat a regular meal, I usually vomit within 30 mins. And if I have 3 meals in one day then it becomes an obstruction trip to ER. Otherwise when not eating I am okay.
I have dropped 20 lbs in 9 weeks. My blood pressure was running so low (80's/40's) that they had me plugged into potassium and were threatening to TPN feed me. It is a very frustrating process. I am afraid that if this goes untreated I will die. Everything I have read about intussusception says this is extremely rare and no one seems to know about it. If anyone has experienced this with their colectomy, I really need some support or any info you can pass on besides the basic mayoclinic stuff. I really hope to get better. But I am also scared and so sick of hospitals.
Today it has worsened since I was released only last Wednesday Sept 7, I am not having a bowel movement because I started eating again... It seems that this condition is elusive?
