Is a directive necessary?

So this is a bit depressing, I apologize. But I've been thinking about this a great deal and thought y'all might have some input.

Should I have an advanced directive or something like that? I know that there are complications from Crohn's that could be potentially fatal, and I wasn't sure if a directive would be good/useless. Do any of you have a directive? How would I even go about making one? I am almost twenty so I think now is the time for me to start considering these matters more seriously.

It is a serious matter that all adults (Even healthy ones) need to consider. You could get into a near fatal car wreck that leaves you in a vegetative because your family does not know your wishes. You can have a attorney draft one i think. To find out for sure you can also call your hospital

Hey Essieluv!

I waited until my mid 40s to do an advanced directive. I have a partner and did not want to leave things "up in the air".

You can do an advanced directive thru legalzoom.com and now I feel much better after getting it done. If you are thinking about it, then do it. While it is certainly end of life planning, please don't think crohns is an early end of life illness. I failed all of the same meds as you (except humira, which I start Friday) but even when that fails (as I suspect it will), I am not concerned with end of life.
