is crohns in stages?

hello, is there different stages to crohns?
like at one end of the scale the medications weaker, easier to deal with, short flare ups up to maybee 2-8 hours, get away with eating more stuff that doesnt agree with you.
Then at the other end of the scale the medication is stronger, very hard to deal with, flare ups lasting for ever, hard to eat anything that does agree with you.

does it progress?

or is this wrong?

cheers

Hi Mark!
Weather's been OK in sunny West Yorkshire today hasn't it!
I think the answer is that everyone has very different symptoms, and sometimes have flare-ups where it gets worse and may require different treatment. I've had it for a lot of years, and for a lot of that time I never had any treatment at all. I had a bad do about 18 months ago but now seem to be coming round a bit. If you read through some of the threads you'll find some have really quite bad symptoms... but nothing seems to be "typical"

yes steve it has been sunny today. ive been workin in doncaster and its been a cracking day. thanks for the responce.

The disease CAN progress, but it also can be kept under control, sometimes due to medicine, sometimes not. If left uncheck, and you're lucky, the disease itself can calm down and never progress, but that is rare. There's different severities (sadly even fatal ones), and if you think about it, there's always some form of progression, because in reality, nearly all of us were "normal" at one point, then the "sh*t hit the proverbial fan". So, in essence we all had it progress from nothing, to something. Over extended time, most patients do see some level of progression, which is why proper treatment, education and diet is paramount- to stall, halt, or even reverse this progression.

Hiya Mark,
Over the last 20 odd years, My situation hasn't really got worse as such.
I've found times when I was in remission for 3-4 months, but would get a flareup that maybe wasn't as bad as the previous one.
My first flareup was probably the worst one I've ever had, but then again it sticks out in my memory, so perhaps that is the reason.

I've only found out recently, that each flareup causes scarring on the bowel, and over time this scaring can become a problem.
This is one of my current problems.
So there is a progression.
But generally, I haven't found myself getting worse over the years.

It's a case of treating each flare as quickly as possible to limit the damage done.
