hi, I have had crohns for just a bit over a year now, with many flare ups which i am used to, however recently it has felt different to the other times i am back on budesionide 9mg which normally helps but hasn't seem to, my symptoms are feeling really sick and cramping, back pain as well as dry heaving (new to me) however i will go for 2-3 days and feel OK then feel really unwell for 1-2days then the whole cycle begins!!!, my question is, is dry heaving normal for people with crohns or is it just me? also why do i get this and is there anything i can prevent it?. It all started when I went to Egypt and got a stomach bug as well as my friends swell although theres lasted 4 days and mine never went away it seems and got worse when my doctor started to think it was now a crohns flare u. hopefully someone has been in the same boat and has some advice please!!thanks

Hi Missl and welcome to the community.

My first question is, did the CROHN'S start when you went to Egypt or these newest symptoms? If that's when the Crohn's started, how did they diagnose you? Via a colonoscopy with biopsies or some other means?

Have you told your GI about these new symptoms? If so, what did they say?

All my best to you.

I was diagnosed 1 year ago by colonoscopy with biopsies. In Egypt at first I thought it was a stomach bug i may have caught however it has been 3 weeks now and i have gotten worse and my gastro thinks it may be a flare so he has put me back on budesiondie. I have told him and he wasn't much help he is a new DR for me as i just left the UK where my gastro of 1 year was there. my main concern is the dry heaving i have never had it before and i have no idea why i am getting it and how to stop it.

It's concerning to me as well :( No, it's not, "Normal" and I'm a bit concerned that you may have a stricture and getting partial obstructions. When was the last time they did an MRI or CT on you to evaluate your disease state?

about 5 months ago I had a MRI... I just got results for a stool sample that was testing for an infection or blood which came back as clear..

Hi Missl,

I've had many partial obstructions due to a stricture in my terminal ileum and I do experience dry heaving but usually after I've brought everything else up. I also get hiccups a lot. I think both could be symptoms of a partial blockage so definitely worth mentioning to your doctor. Is it accompanied by bloating or abdominal spasms? Those are also symptomatic of an obstruction but I know from experience that you can get pretty nauseous from severe constipation too.

Hope everything goes well for you :)
