Hi, I just wondered please, does anyone know if Mesavant XL is a Diffrent medication to Pentassa?...I ask because, when my son was in hospital, the Sachets he took said 'Mesavant' But, the medication he has been given to take at home is Pentassa, he has 4000mg a day.

He is just newly diagnosed a week after being rushed unto hopsital and had to stay in for 11 days...He seems well and is eating good, we have changed quite a few things in his diet. Also, he is only going to the toilet 3/5 as opposed to 12+!

So, does this mean that he is in remmission?...and, this 'Good' period, could it be like a honey moon period before it all starts again?

I am diabetic, and sometimes when things are going well, as Diabetics, we refer to this as the' Honey moon period'.

I have started him on Cod liver iol, Actimel, and only buying Lactose free milk...Also, brown rice and pasta...which thankfully he loves!!

Any advce on Med's would be really appretiated...Thank you, Lorraine x

It is the same active ingrediant, the difference is in the coating. I believe Pentasa is released throughout the intestinal tract, mesavant xl is licenced for ulcerative colitis so probably releases only in the large intestine.
